Welcome to College Station: A Unique Haven for Pets in Need of Care

Welcome to College Station: A Home for Beloved Pets

In the heart of College Station lies a truly exceptional haven for pets and their owners—The Stevenson Animal Companion Life Care Center. This facility isn’t just about housing animals; it’s about providing a warm, nurturing environment for pets whose owners can no longer care for them. It’s touching to know that such a place exists for our furry friends, where they can be loved and cherished for the rest of their lives.

A Unique Concept

The Stevenson Center prides itself on a home-like setting. As you walk through the doors, you’re greeted by wagging tails, playful purrs, and even the soft sounds of rabbits and donkeys. With around 35 animal residents including dogs, cats, rabbits, donkeys, and a parakeet, it feels lively and vibrant, just like any family home. “What makes the Stevenson Center truly unique is that it’s not just a facility — the residents live in the center like they would at home,” says Ellie Greenbaum, the associate director. “They’re not caged; they’re just living their life, living a good life.”

History of Care

Founded in 1993 by the visionary Dr. E.W. Ellett, the center aims to offer a comforting environment that benefits not just animals but also the College of Veterinary Medicine. With the generous backing of the Luse Foundation and Madlin Stevenson, who contributed significantly to its launch, the center has blossomed into a vibrant community where animals thrive.

Madlin Stevenson’s love for animals was evident, particularly when she entrusted the center with her own pets, including nine dogs and four cats after her passing in 2000. This act speaks volumes about the trust and love that families have for the services provided by the Stevenson Center.

Personnel Dedicated to Caring

The center operates with the help of a dedicated team who take care of these furry residents. “If you have the right staff, everything goes right,” Greenbaum explains. The facility employs a resident staff that includes four veterinary students, ensuring that these animals receive 24/7 supervision and personalized care.

Dr. Sam Miller, the director for the past three years, echoes the sentiments of the entire team. “It’s a privilege to lead a place where the love for animals drives everything we do,” he shares, emphasizing that every animal receives the utmost attention. “We don’t just provide shelter; we provide a home.”

Peace of Mind for Pet Owners

One of the most significant features of the Stevenson Center is its ability to ease the worries of pet owners. Many older pet owners often wonder, “What happens to my pet if I can’t take care of them anymore?” The center offers the opportunity for these anxious owners to plan ahead, ensuring pets enjoy a secure and loving environment even in their absence.

Miller is passionate about the peace of mind the center provides to pet owners, saying, “I think a lot of this highlights the value that people place on their animals these days.” As he looks around, he reminisces about how this kind of care was unheard of just a few decades ago.

A Place of Love and Growth

The Stevenson Center is not only a care facility but a thriving community where bonds are formed, experiences are shared, and learning is an everyday occurrence. As Greenbaum puts it, “It’s not just about caring for animals — it’s about giving peace of mind and ensuring these pets live their best life in a loving environment.” Here in College Station, amid all the hustle and bustle, the Stevenson Center forges a path that emphasizes compassion and reminds us all just how important the connection between humans and animals truly is.

As we look to the future, it is inspiring to see how the Stevenson Center continues to grow and evolve. With the care, love, and dedication from the staff, these animals are not just given a roof over their heads; they are embraced into a family that values their joy and comfort above all.
