Get ready, College Station! A brand-new hangout spot is about to open its doors, and it’s bringing some serious good vibes with it. VooDoo Brewery, owned by the enthusiastic Rona Bomkamp, will officially launch this Saturday at 101 Church Ave., right in the heart of the Northgate area on the Texas A&M University campus.
Rona and her husband, Ron, found their way to College Station after years of exploration – thanks to Ron’s military career. “We’ve always enjoyed exploring new places and finding local breweries,” Rona shared. “My husband is originally from Texas, and we felt like as we get closer to retirement, all roads lead to Texas. So, here we are, thrilled to be in College Station!”
VooDoo Brewery is not just another franchise; it’s a unique experience inspired by Rona’s adventures. The brewery’s design and atmosphere reflect her travels and her vibrant love for life. “We wanted to create a space similar to the places we discovered on our adventures together,” she said, “a place where people can hang out, enjoy great food, and taste some fantastic beers.”
One of the main attractions of VooDoo Brewery will be the variety of beers on tap. With a total of 20 unique beers, Rona promises that each one has its own personality. “We’re excited to feature both beers brewed in Pennsylvania, where VooDoo originated, and local taps to honor the community,” she explained. Trending names like Empty Calories — a low-calorie option, Schnitzengiggles for Oktoberfest, Good Vibes, and Love Child show just how creative they’re getting with flavors.
What sets VooDoo Brewery apart is Rona and Ron’s approach to business. They prefer a more personal touch, saying they’re an “anti-franchise,” emphasizing a family-like atmosphere among employees. Rona said, “This is my baby, and my employees will feel like family to me. I have a grandma vibe, so I might end up calling the staff ‘the kids’ in no time!”
Additionally, each VooDoo location has a unique logo: College Station’s features a skull next to a barn, along with artwork that embraces local Aggie traditions. Rona meticulously picked every single detail of the brewery’s design, from lighting to paint colors, highlighting the community spirit that College Station is known for. “It’s a lengthy process, but it’s been so rewarding to see it come to life,” she said, praising local contractors for their help.
VooDoo Brewery isn’t just about beer; it’s about fostering community relationships. Rona is looking forward to hosting a variety of events, such as trivia nights and music bingo, aiming to create a space full of fun and camaraderie that reflects the essence of local breweries that she adores. “We just can’t wait to be part of the Northgate area and tap into the amazing talents of Texas A&M students and the community,” she expressed enthusiastically.
As if the arrival of VooDoo Brewery isn’t exciting enough, College Station is buzzing with new businesses opening soon! Look out for other newcomers like REI, Crunch Fitness, Nautical Bowls, and the Drury Plaza Hotel on the horizon. Dirty Dough Cookies and Karma Kolache & Desserts are also set to join the scene shortly, making it a thrilling time for local business enthusiasts.
With so much happening in College Station, gobbling down some delicious burgers, chicken wings, and mac and cheese while sipping on unique beers at VooDoo Brewery is surely going to be one of the best experiences in town! Rona summed it up perfectly, “Life is too short to drink bad beer!” So, bring your friends and family for the grand opening this Saturday and witness this charming brewery come to life.
