Brazos County, Texas – In a thrilling series of events, multiple arrest warrants led to a high-speed vehicle and foot chase by the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office on April 23, 2024. The prime suspect, a 40-year-old man named Kristofer Wingate, is now being held in Brazos County jail, pending charges arising from both the chase and numerous preexisting warrants spread across four counties.
The engagement with law enforcement started around the Texas and Villa Maria area, following the discovery of Wingate’s outstanding warrants. The chase moved east, running over the freeway down Boonville Road and Highway 30. It then went south on Bird Pond Road, threaded its way through College Station’s Foxfire neighborhood, before finally running north on the freeway back into Bryan, and west on Highway 21 into Burleson County.
The intensive chase came to an end near Cooks Point, at Farm Road 1362 near Highway 21. Alongside a fresh charge of evading arrest, Wingate is facing three warrants from Grimes County, two each from Brazos and Waller counties, and one from Burleson County. These charges range from discharging a firearm, assault, and possession of a controlled substance.
In an unrelated incident, a Brazos County sheriff’s deputy arrested another man following a short foot chase. the incident started when the deputy noted a pickup following another vehicle too closely on Highway 21, near the Brazos River. The driver, 34-year-old Felipe Tello Jr., fled into a nearby field as soon as his truck was stopped by the deputy.
After covering approximately 50 to 75 yards, Tello was apprehended thanks to the deputy’s taser. This arrest marks the 34th time in 16 years that Tello has been taken into custody. He currently faces charges of DWI, driving with an invalid license with a prior conviction, evading arrest with a prior conviction, and threatening the deputy and two jail officers. Tello is being held on bonds totaling $33,000 dollars.
The cases against both Wingate and Tello continue to unfold as law enforcement and legal authorities process the incidents and dig deeper into both men’s histories. For Brazos County, these arrests mark a small victory in their ongoing fight against crime.
