Lightning Strike Leaves Northgate Venue Temporarily Closed

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – A sudden fire caused by a lightning strike brought temporary closure to University Drive on Saturday evening. The unexpected incident took place at The Backyard, a popular social venue located in the vibrant Northgate area.

Emergency Response Prompt and Swift

Local law enforcement were quick on the scene, advising the public to steer clear of the Northgate area around 6:00 PM. University Drive was specifically impacted by the incident, with the road being temporarily shut down for approximately 30 minutes. The College Station police have since confirmed that the road has been reopened.

The Backyard Provides Updates

The Backyard took to social media, sharing that the venue was struck by lightning which resulted in the fire. Luckily, no injuries were reported from the incident. While there has been moderate internal damage, including a small hole punctured in the roof, the team of The Backyard is already undertaking efforts to restore the venue.

“We’re working hard to reopen downstairs tonight,” they announced amidst the ordeal. “However, some of our sound equipment has been affected, posing a challenge for us.”
