The competition was fierce, with athletes from both the men’s and women’s teams making their mark on the NCAA rankings. As it stands, the Texas A&M men’s team is proudly holding the No. 1 spot, while the women’s team follows closely in third place. The achievements of these talented athletes didn’t go unnoticed, as redshirt senior Auhmad Robinson was honored as the SEC Men’s Runner of the Week, while junior Camryn Dickson claimed the title of SEC Women’s Runner of the Week.

Sofia Yakushina Takes the Spotlight

Among the standout performers was freshman Sofia Yakushina, who made waves in the women’s heptathlon. Not only did she excel, but she set a new freshman record and secured the NCAA’s top score with an impressive total of 6,260 points. Over the two-day event, Yakushina showcased her versatility, achieving multiple personal bests and season highs.

She kicked off her competition with a bang, finishing third in the 100m hurdles in a personal best time of 13.51 seconds. Next, she soared to new heights in the high jump, clearing an impressive 1.74 meters to finish fifth and later threw a personal best of 11.85 meters in the shot put, placing ninth in that event.

But that was just the beginning! In the thrilling 200m race, she blitzed to victory, clocking in at 23.48 seconds, achieving her second personal best of the meet. Day two saw her continue to shine as she achieved a season-best long jump of 6.40 meters, snagging first place, followed by a personal best throw of 43.07 meters in the javelin, which earned her a commendable second place. She capped her outstanding performance by finishing second in the 800m with a time of 2:12.72.

More Successes for the Aggies

On the relay front, the women’s 4x100m team, featuring senior Latasha Smith, Dickson, senior Bria Bullard, and junior Jasmine Montgomery, dazzled the crowd by setting a new meet record with a time of 43.04 seconds. Junior Jaiya Covington also shone bright, recording a season best of 12.77 seconds in the women’s 100m hurdles, ranking third nationally.

In the men’s competition, Robinson continued to dazzle the audience by winning the 200m with a time of 20.21 seconds, which also marked a new NCAA No. 3 time. Meanwhile, sophomore Austin Owen earned a personal best in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing second with a time of 10:51.87, while freshman Staucie Lees claimed third with 11:03.65.

In addition, junior Winny Bii showcased her prowess, winning the women’s triple jump with a seasonal best of 13.74 meters, while the men’s 4x400m relay team nearly matched their record time, finishing just 0.14 seconds shy at 3:02.26.

Senior Elise Smoot also made waves, winning the women’s 1500m with a solid time of 4:22.37, which places her sixth all-time at Texas A&M. And don’t forget about freshman Penelope Gracey, who shined bright with a victory in the women’s 5000m, clocking in at 16:57.46—she also set a new personal best and meet record!
