Victorious Sunday for Texas A&M Men’s and Women’s Tennis
Bryan-College Station, Texas: The No. 10 ranked Texas A&M men’s tennis team achieved impressive victories over SEC rival Ole Miss and Lamar on Sunday, March 11, 2024, at the Mitchell Tennis Center. In tandem, the No. 13 women’s team secured their fourth-consecutive conference triumph against Ole Miss.
A&M Men’s Team Dominate Against Opponents
Men’s team head coach, Steve Denton, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance in both games, with solid contributions from players like Luke Casper/JC Roddick and Tiago Pires/Kenner Taylor in the doubles.
Texas A&M Versus Ole Miss
The Maroon & White started with doubles win, with Casper/Roddick overpowering Carson Baker/John Hallquist Lithen 6-3. Clinching the doubles point for the Aggies were Pires/Taylor who defeated Noah Schlagenhauf/Isac Stromberg 6-4. Subsequent matches saw more Aggies victories, securing A&M’s 5-2 triumph. No. 64 Roddick secured the last victory of the contest for the Aggies with a win over Hallquist Lithen (6-3, 6-3).
Texas A&M Versus Lamar
Carrying forward the winning momentum, A&M dominated against Lamar with quick victories in both doubles and singles matches. Securing the match for A&M was Luke Casper who dominated against Max Amling (6-2, 6-1). The Aggies ended the day with a clean 7-0 sweep against Lamar.
A&M Women’s Team Continue Winning Streak
The No. 13 Texas A&M women’s tennis team obtained its fourth-consecutive conference win against the Rebels. Court 3 saw Khirin/Fitch putting down the Rebels’ duo Lucie Devier/AndreaNova 6-1. Mia Kupres/Mary Stoiana nailed the doubles point for A&M by defeating No.79 Ava Hrastar/Briana Crowley 6-4.
Singles’ Highlights
Singles action saw No. 30 Kupres beating Briana Crowley (6-2, 6-2), No. 1 Stoiana taking down Ludmila Kareisova (6-1, 6-2), and on court 6, Jeanette Mireles claimed victory over Emma Kette (6-4, 6-2). Continuing the victory streak, No. 17 Khirin and Daria Smetannikov secured wins in their matches.
Post-match, head coach Mark Weaver was pleased and impressed by the team’s persistent high-level performance. The Aggie women’s team continues their streak away, heading to Athens, Georgia, to face the No. 10 Bulldogs on March 15, at 3 p.m.
Anticipating Future Matches
The men’s Aggies team returns home on Wednesday, March 13, to compete in a doubleheader against UTRGV at 12 p.m. and No. 1 Ohio State at 6 p.m. A&M remains undefeated at home this season, having won three SEC games in a row.
