In an exciting turn of events for the Texas A&M System, Governor Greg Abbott has announced the appointment of Kelley Sullivan Georgiades along with the reappointments of Jay Graham and Mike Hernandez to the Board of Regents. Each of these appointments comes with a term set to expire on February 1, 2031, allowing these leaders ample time to make impactful changes within the system.
Meet Kelley Sullivan Georgiades, a dynamic figure hailing from Houston. As the executive vice president of the Sullivan Brothers Family of Companies, Georgiades is not only shaping the business landscape but also contributing significantly to agricultural initiatives across Texas. Notably, she’s a co-owner of Santa Rosa Ranch and GKG Land and Cattle, where her dedication to land and cattle management shines through.
Besides her business ventures, Georgiades brings a wealth of experience to the board as a member of several reputable organizations, such as the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and the Texas A&M Press. She’s also a delegate for the Council for Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching and acts as the international committee captain for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Georgiades is an alumna of Texas A&M University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communication, followed by a certificate in Ranch Management from Texas Christian University.
Next up is Jay Graham, a Houston entrepreneur who has made a name for himself as the chairman, CEO, and founder of Spur Energy Partners. With experience stretching back to 1993, Graham is no stranger to the oil and gas industry. He was previously the CEO and co-founder of WildHorse Resources and has shown a commitment to education by founding the Graham Petroleum Ventures Program at Texas A&M.
Moreover, he has established initiatives such as the April and Jay Graham Fellowship for the Military Service Initiative at the George W. Bush Presidential Center. Graham is actively involved in several prestigious organizations, including the George W. Bush Presidential Center Executive Advisory Council, the All-American Wildcatters, and the National Petroleum Council. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University, equipping him with the knowledge and expertise to tackle challenges on the board.
Last but certainly not least is Mike Hernandez, an influential figure in the Fort Worth area. As the owner and CEO of D&M Leasing Texas and several Four Stars car dealerships, Hernandez has a wealth of experience in the automotive industry. His leadership extends beyond business; he’s actively involved with organizations like the National Automobile Dealers Association and the Texas Lieutenant Governor Patrick’s Advisory Committee on Workforce Training.
Hernandez is also noted for his philanthropic efforts, founding the Hernandez Foundation and the Brownsville Scholars Program to support education and community initiatives. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Distribution from Texas A&M University, marking him as another devoted Aggie on the board.
While these appointments are exciting news for the Texas A&M System, they still require confirmation by the state senate. The addition of Georgiades, alongside the reappointment of Graham and Hernandez, underscores a strategic move toward a diverse and skilled leadership team that is poised to make significant contributions to the future of Texas A&M.
