College Station, Texas—In a series filled with excitement and powerful performances, the No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies celebrated a resounding three-game sweep over the sixth-ranked LSU Tigers at Davis Diamond this past weekend. It was a remarkable achievement for the Aggies, who improved their record to 36-5 overall and 10-3 in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), while LSU fell to 35-8 overall and 8-7 in SEC play.
The action kicked off on Friday night with a high-scoring clash that saw the Aggies triumph with a score of 12-7. Leading the charge for A&M was center fielder Allie Enright, who showcased her hitting skills with a crucial double that helped set the tone for the evening. But she wasn’t alone in making an impact. First baseman Mya Perez etched her name in the record books, becoming the first Aggie since 2014 to hit three doubles in a single game. Fueling A&M’s offense was effective pitching from Emiley Kennedy, who took control and set the stage for the weekend’s success.
Additionally, catcher Olivia Johnson played a vital role, executing a timely sacrifice bunt to advance runners, demonstrating the depth of A&M’s lineup. With 13 hits and an impressive display of six extra-base hits, the Aggies made it clear they were ready for the challenge.
The Aggies were back in action on Saturday afternoon, and they brought their A-game once again, winning the second matchup 9-7. A&M got off to a dazzling start, rocketing ahead 7-0 thanks to the combination of five walks in the first inning—putting the pressure on LSU right from the get-go. Despite a spirited comeback by the Tigers later in the game, the Aggies focused on holding their ground and employing various pitching changes to keep LSU on their toes.
Throughout the series, Emiley Kennedy returned to the mound multiple times, proving essential to the team’s success. A&M’s ability to leverage different pitching options without sacrificing performance has been crucial as they navigate the challenges of SEC play.
As Sunday rolled around, the stage was set for the Aggies to seal their first SEC series sweep over LSU after facing a similar fate last season. And seal it they did, with a final score of 4-1. Kennedy was back on the mound again and pitched a stellar game, closing out with a hitless, scoreless performance. The Aggies’ only slight misstep came in the top of the seventh, where the Tigers managed to plate their only run via an RBI single from Maci Bergeron.
LSU’s Tatum Clopton pitched admirably but ended up taking the loss, allowing four runs over five innings. The Tigers, coming into the weekend with a solid home record after having swept Georgia earlier this season, left College Station with their heads held high, knowing they had battled fiercely despite the outcomes.
With this impressive series behind them, A&M is focused on its goals for the rest of the season, and Coach Trisha Ford has highlighted the importance of each win within the competitive SEC landscape. As they gear up for their upcoming challenges, including a matchup against Texas next, the Aggies are clearly on a roll—prepared to harness their depth and various strategies to continue their ascent toward the Women’s College World Series.
As the buzz from this weekend lingers, fans of Texas A&M softball can relish in the Aggies’ triumphant momentum, with more thrilling games yet to come!
