In an exciting development, Texas A&M University has ushered a transformation in weather forecasting technology for the Brazos Valley. The established institution is replacing its over 50-year-old Aggie Doppler Radar, familiarly known as “ADRAD“, with a more advanced weather tracking system. The replacement will be made on the Eller Oceanography and Meteorology building and will provide the community with significantly more accurate and timely weather updates.
In a bid to ensure the best for the community, Texas A&M has partnered with a leading private weather forecasting company. This collaboration aims to bring the very best in weather technology to the entire Brazos Valley region. The sophisticated new radar is set to be installed on the Oceanography and Meteorology (O&M) building coming Saturday afternoon using a helicopter.
Once operational, the new radar system will run round the clock, providing updates every minute. This marks a significant improvement from the previous system’s refresh rate of six minutes. The First Alert Weather Team, partners of the initiative, will access this exclusive data and incorporate it into their coverage. The advanced capabilities of the new radar system are set to ensure the folks of the Brazos Valley have the most accurate and timely storm tracking data available.
The introduction of the more advanced radar system will directly benefit the residents of Brazos Valley. The faster refresh rate will bring a notable change in storm tracking, giving residents the time piece of mind knowing that they can rely on the forecast. The advance warning will offer them the necessary time to make preparations against any imminent weather conditions.
Details about the exact time of the radar installation will be provided closer to the date of the event. Once operational, this will mark a new chapter in weather forecasting for the Brazos Valley region. For years, ADRAD has served the community, and with its retirement, the new state-of-the-art radar is ready to offer the community an enhanced weather forecasting service.
