In Sammamish, Washington, it has been announced that the Texas A&M men’s golf team will initiate the 2024-25 campaign at one of the prestigious season-opening tournaments, having received an invitation to the Sahalee Players Championship due to occur on September 7-8.
Sahalee Golf Club, one of the primary courses on the west coast, recently hosted the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in June. Furthermore, it garnered recognition for hosting the men’s PGA Championship in 1998 as well as the men’s 2010 U.S. Senior Open and the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in 2016.
The upcoming tournament promises electrifying competition with an elite twelve teams battling it out for supremacy. A significant seven of these teams concluded the previous season in the top 25 on the Clippd National Golf Ranking. On record, ten of the participating teams played at NCAA regional tournaments, indicating a high level of skill and competition.
Entering the 2024-25 season, the Aggies bring a seasoned line-up to the field with seven returning letterwinners. These include PING All-America Third Team and All-SEC Second Team performer Phỷchaksn Maichon and PING All-Central Region honoree Jaime Montojo.
In addition to existing team members, a pair of newcomers are set to enhance the squad’s performance. Included in their roster is Wheaton Ennis, the 2024 Arizona Amateur champion, and Alex Long, the 2022 Florida State Golf Association Junior Player of the Year.
The Sahalee Players Championship tournament started in 1992 with the aim to bring together the finest amateur golfers worldwide. These players compete annually in this revered tournament. From inception to 2019, it functioned as an independently run elite amateur tournament.
Following a temporary pause due to the COVID pandemic, the tournament made a strong comeback in September 2023 as it transitioned to a collegiate event. Now, it hosts leading men’s golf programs in the country and promises to continue this tradition of excellence and competitive spirit.
