Disturbance at Bryan ISD Track Meet

Bryan ISD. On March 21, what started as a joyful day of young athletes competing turned sour when a man created a disturbance at Merrill Green Stadium.

A 29-year-old man, known as John Villalpando, was arrested after he allegedly made disturbing threats, claiming he would shoot bystanders at the event. Thankfully, no one was injured during this chaotic moment. Luckily, Villalpando was apprehended quickly by school resource officers from the Bryan police department. This will be his 13th booking in the Brazos County jail since 2013, a fact that adds a layer of concern for many in the community.

At the time of this arrest, he was on probation related to a previous felony incident, indicating ongoing issues that have contributed to his repeated encounters with law enforcement. Bryan ISD communicated that there was no disruption to school activities, reassuring everyone that students and staff remained safe.

The swift actions of the Bryan police department were praised, as they made sure the situation was handled promptly, ensuring a secure environment for all.

Brazos County’s New Developments

$50 million contract has been approved for a new office building that will be located directly across Texas Avenue from the courthouse. This complex will not only feature the office building but also include a new parking garage and a convenient walkway for easy courthouse access.

Additionally, the county and the city of Bryan will soon have a new 9-1-1 operations center following a $2.25 million purchase of a building near Bryan Collegiate High School. Thanks to the funding from the 9-1-1 agency, renovation costs for this essential facility will be covered, enhancing emergency response capabilities in the region.

Traffic Changes to Note

William Joel Bryan (WJB) toward the freeway is now in effect, aiming to improve safety in the area. This change comes after traffic discussions, especially since U-turns are allowed at Nash.

Officers have been busy issuing warnings about this new traffic rule, but soon, they will begin enforcing it by issuing tickets. Keep an eye out for these changes if you’re navigating through that intersection, as it’s always better to be safe than sorry!

This is a busy time for our community with a mix of serious issues and bright developments, proving there’s never a dull moment in College Station and Bryan!
