At Texas A&M University, a student organization known as TASK is making waves by offering free consulting services to for-profit businesses. Established in 2020, TASK has quickly become a hub for ambitious students looking to dive into the world of consulting while helping local enterprises thrive.
Unlike many consulting groups that focus on non-profit organizations or charities, TASK is all about supporting businesses that aim to make a profit. With around 30 dedicated members, the organization takes on four to five projects each semester, allowing students to gain practical experience while giving back to the community.
The process of finding clients is quite energetic. Members enthusiastically engage in cold emailing, use word of mouth, and even go door-to-door in their quest to connect with local businesses that could use some extra help. Each project team typically consists of a team lead and four to five members. Together, they commit around 450 hours of work over a span of 10 weeks to deliver impressive results.
At the end of each semester, TASK provides clients with a comprehensive final deliverable, which includes a detailed report and presentation slides that summarize the findings and recommendations. The services they offer are diverse and cater to various business needs. From financial analysis and marketing strategies to operations improvement and customer experience enhancement, TASK members put their skills to the test while contributing to real-world business challenges.
While TASK is serious about its mission to develop consulting skills, it also values community. Members chill out during social events and take part in an annual networking trip with various consulting firms. This balance of professional development and camaraderie creates a welcoming atmosphere where lasting friendships can flourish.
Sitting in the heart of College Station, TASK initially partnered with the local Chamber of Commerce but has since expanded its reach. The group has completed an impressive total of 57 projects for clients across a wide range of locations, from the quaint town of Brenham to the bustling city of Austin. Apart from honing their consulting expertise, members gain valuable exposure to different industries and experiences they might not encounter otherwise.
One memorable visit involved a farm client where members engaged with adorable horses and donkeys, blending business with fun. This touch of adventure is just one of the many reasons members enjoy their time with TASK.
As students navigate their paths, many have found TASK to be the ideal platform to improve their skills and build confidence. Some members have been inspired to join due to family connections in the consulting industry, leading them to discover new passions along the way.
TASK is proving that students at Texas A&M University can impact their community while preparing for their futures, all while having a blast. This student organization is not just about consulting; it’s about making connections, learning new skills, and building a brighter future—one project at a time!
