Scott Shafer Claims Victory in Thrilling College Station City Council Race

In an exciting conclusion to the College Station City Council Place 6 race, Scott Shafer has been officially declared the winner, edging out his competitor, Tre Watson, by a nail-biting margin of just eight-tenths of 1 percent! The announcement came after the last of the late absentee and military ballots were tallied on Tuesday night, thrilling both candidates and their supporters.

The Narrowest of Margins

This particular race has certainly been the talk of the town, as it emerged as the closest contest of the entire Brazos County election season. Initially, it was unclear who would come out on top as votes came pouring in, and with both candidates closely trailing one another.

After all precincts reported their results on election night, it was determined that around 450 provisional ballots and 700 absentee and military ballots still needed counting. With only a difference of 215 votes separating Shafer and Watson at that time, the election could have swung in either direction!

Final Vote Count

When the dust settled, the final tally revealed that Shafer garnered a total of 13,948 votes, representing 50.4% of the total votes cast. On the other hand, Watson secured 13,727 votes, bringing him to 49.6%. It was a campaign that kept everyone on the edge of their seats!

Swearing In Ceremony This Thursday

Now that the results are in, all eyes are turning to the special swearing-in ceremony scheduled at 3 p.m. on Thursday at City Hall. Scott Shafer, along with fellow council members David White, Melissa McIlhaney, and Bob Yancy, will officially take their oaths of office.

After the ceremony, they will dive straight into their first council meeting on Thursday evening, ready to tackle the issues at hand and serve the College Station community effectively.

What to Expect Next

The excitement doesn’t stop there! The City of College Station is currently working on expanding their annual Christmas Parade. They will be accepting parade applications until the end of this week, ensuring a festive atmosphere for everyone to enjoy as the holiday season approaches.

Community members are encouraged to stay in the loop on local developments and other assorted topics. Whether you’re interested in following government updates or want to know more about the latest local happenings, there are lots of resources you can tag along with to keep you connected.
