Over 200 Kids Equipped With School Supplies At BCS Together’s Back to School Bash

The 2024 Back to School Bash organized by BCS Together became a memorable event for approximately 200 kids associated with foster care or adoption communities. These children were provided with brand-new school supplies and clothes, just in time for the upcoming academic year. BCS Together also facilitated free vision screening for all children present at the event.

Alleviating Financial Burdens

Julia Shaw, the Closet Manager at BCS Together, expressed how school supplies could put a strain on certain families’ budgets. She emphasized that such events serve to ease the financial burden for these families, especially those incorporating new members into their households. “Families that we serve are oftentimes just in need, some of them are in poverty, and they just have a high need for tangible items,” Shaw said.

A Boost In Confidence

According to Brian Linder from Ray of Hope (one of the event’s sponsors), providing new shoes to these children boosts their confidence, an important factor as they step into a new academic year. Everyone attending the event left with a brand-new pair of shoes, an accessory that Linder claims helps in a child’s self-expression.

The Joy Of Giving

Taylor Whittlesey, a volunteer at the event, shared the joy of distributing these supplies, stating how the children’s excitement at receiving new pencils and markers was a highlight of the day. The community’s support and donations made the Back to School Bash possible.

Continued Support

BCS Together intends to continue its support for these children and families through their closet initiative, which provides free items such as clothing, car seats, and other necessities. Through such efforts, they aim to create an engaged and supportive community for children and families associated with foster care or adoption.
