In an exciting announcement, Texas A&M’s president, Mark Welsh, revealed that staff employees at the institution will receive a pay raise. The new pay rates are set to be reflected on the paychecks after June 1st, indicating a positive development for the staff community at Texas A&M.
The announcement posted on the president’s website specifies that full time positions not qualifying for overtime, and are paid monthly, will receive a minimum annual base salary of $45,000. Moreover, full-time positions that are eligible for overtime and are based in the Bryan/College Station area will have a minimum pay of $15.85 per hour.
In addition to the pay raise news, Texas A&M is welcoming a new dean of The Bush School of government and public service. Accomplished national security expert John B. Sherman, a class of 1992 alumnus, will fill the vacancy after Mark Welsh was promoted to president. Strongly backed by his 30 years of career in national security, including his position as the U.S. defense department’s chief information officer, Sherman is set to start on August 1.
Sherman’s widespread experience in defense, intelligence, IT modernization, cybersecurity, data collection and analysis, and international affairs is projected to add great value to the institution and its student community.
Mark Welsh expressed his apparent satisfaction with Sherman’s appointment. He said, “John is a true public servant, having worked in government service his entire career. His great reputation as a leader in public service and national security will create lasting help for our students and positive impact after they graduate.”
Along with his profound qualifications, Sherman is recognized as a distinguished military graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in history. Before transitioning the defense and intelligence sectors, Sherman served as an air defense officer in the U.S. Army’s 24th Infantry Division.
While these changes are underway, Texas A&M continues two dean searches at the architecture and the graduate and professional schools. Searches are also in progress for Texas A&M’s next chief operating officer and vice president for faculty affairs.
This comprehensive series of changes, the pay raises, and the appointment of the new dean, reflect a comprehensive progress commitment geared towards the advancement of Texas A&M. The entire staff, administration, and student body together look forward to an enriched future.
