Renewing Renaissance Era in Theatre: SOMETHING ROTTEN by The Theatre Company
Set against the captivating backdrop of the 1590s, The Theatre Company (TTC) is gearing up to transport audiences back to the Renaissance era with their forthcoming musical extravaganza deliverance ‘ Something Rotten ‘, slated to hold auditions on August 26, 2024.
The Lost Era of Art: The Plot
Created by the Grammy Award-winning songwriter Wayne Kirkpatrick, screenwriters Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell, Something Rotten introduces us to the struggling Bottom brothers, Nick and Nigel, living under the overwhelming shadow of the acclaimed ‘The Bard’. Their determination to write a hit play leads them down a comedic twist of fate, thanks to a local soothsayer. The prophecy suggests that the future of theatre will involve singing, dancing, and acting, all at once. Thus, begins the Bottom brothers’ hilarious escapade to write the world’s first-ever musical. Eventually, they discover that reaching the top necessitates authenticity, and a whole lot of singing, dancing and jazz.
The Timeless Journey: Learnings and Laughs
Something Rotten, which received several Best Musical nominations, cleverly combines humor with historical context, delivering an engaging narrative that skillfully weaves the journey of the Bottom brothers with the culture of the Renaissance. The often times outrageous and absurd situations that the characters find themselves in result in a plethora of laughs for the audience, making for a thoroughly enjoyable theatrical experience.
Auditions: The Path to Stardom
For those aspiring to be a part of this grand spectacle, auditions will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024 at The Theatre Company in Bryan, beginning at 6 pm. Auditioners will receive assigned time slots on the day. In a call back to the anticipation of the Bottom brothers, callbacks will take place on Tuesday, August 27 at 6pm. Performance Schedule: Save the Dates
The musical farce is set to run from October 4 – 20, 2024 with performances on Fridays – Sundays, promising a joyous experience to look forward to in Bryan during the autumn season.
