Remembering Molly Sims: A Bright Light in College Station

College Station, TX – As the sun set over Texas A&M University, the memories of Molly Sims sparkled just like the twinkle lights adorning the campus. She was more than just a friend to many; she was the life of the party, radiating an energy that warmed hearts around her.

When Lindsay Milheron recalls her time with Molly, those delightful moments flood her mind. Whether they were parked at a Dutch Bros, sipping their favorite Picture Perfect Freeze after long days, or attending band practice filled with laughter, Molly was always there, grinning. And oh, that laugh! “She would laugh so hard every time,” Milheron fondly remembers. “If I said something funny, she’d be laughing for ten minutes straight!”

Unbreakable Friendship

The bond between Milheron and Sims blossomed during their freshman year at Clark High School in Plano, where they both joined the drumline. From those early days of musical camaraderie to navigating the highs and lows of teenage life, their friendship only grew stronger. “We were best friends,” said Milheron, “We had a very sarcastic relationship, but we could just say two words and understand everything.”

As they scrolled through their phones, a treasure trove of memories revealed itself—spontaneous trips to Paris, Texas, an unforgettable night where a parmesan shaker was a source of uncontrollable laughter, and *oh*, the infamous turtle saga that began during a junior competition. “Our band director jokingly said he was a turtle, and we took it from there,” Milheron chuckles. “Now, I see little turtle figurines and can’t help but buy them.”

A Love for Animals

The duo shared a profound love for animals that transformed their dorm room at Rudder Hall into an eclectic showcase of animal artifacts. Imagine oversized stuffed birds named Lerald and a collection of otter photos lining the walls! However, the joyous environment shone through even in their toughest times.

When Molly was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor on the first day of her senior year, her spirit remained intact. “She was so positive,” Milheron shared. “You wouldn’t even know something was wrong unless you were close to her.” Molly continued to show up at school and band rehearsals as if nothing had changed.

The Writer Within

Her love for storytelling reflected in her passion for writing. With dreams of becoming an anthropologist, Molly often spent her free time crafting stories and ideas. “I’d call her and ask what she was up to, and she’d be busy writing,” Milheron recalled. “Her family still has a tub filled with her works. She had a real gift.”

That gift is now preserved in the hearts of her family, friends, and long-time boyfriend, Nash Lowry, who she had been dating since sixth grade. Their love story was a true testament to dedication, as Lowry made frequent trips to visit her at Texas A&M.

Life After Loss

And now, as Milheron walks the campus without her best friend, the emptiness feels palpable. Just weeks ago, she and Lowry enjoyed a weekend at Kyle Field, cheering for the Aggies. Though the joy of the game was present, the absence of Molly lingered in every laugh and every cheer. “It’s strange to not have her around; it feels second nature to look for her,” Milheron said with a quivering voice. “I’m left in an apartment filled with memories of us, just me and my turtles and my bird.”

Molly Sims was and always will be a glowing light in their lives, a reminder to cherish those you love and to find laughter in both the good and bad moments. In College Station, she may be gone, but her spirit and infectious joy will forever light up the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her.
