In a potentially transformative development for the local economy, it has been announced that propositions are currently under consideration by two local governing bodies, to offer incentives aimed at attracting a massive $10 billion dollar manufacturing plant to the Rellis Campus. The aura of anticipation permeating the local community reflects the scale of the potential benefits associated with such an investment.
The city council of Bryan is due to hold a private meeting next Tuesday, June 18, to deliberate on a secretive property tax abatement and discuss other proposable economic incentives for a currently non-disclosed company. The proposed location for the manufacturing plant has only been referred to as the Rellis reinvestment zone, an area established by the council just last month. The council may decide to take action following this upcoming closed-door meeting.
In parallel developments from the county side, Brazos County’s website announced that county commissioners will be deliberating a property tax abatement agreement with a company called America’s Foundry Bryan LLC on July 9. The public notice reveals that the proposed facility would cover 288 acres within the newly created Rellis reinvestment zone; promising an infusion of at least $5 billion dollars towards the construction of manufacturing plants, other buildings, and auxiliary facilities. An additional $5 billion or more would be potentially allocated for machinery, equipment, and other tangible personal property.
Duane Peters, the Brazos County Judge, and Bobby Gutierrez, Mayor of Bryan, have jointly expressed their inability to divulge more specific details regarding the proposed project. Both officials confirmed signing non-disclosure agreements, which legally restrict them from discussing certain aspects associated with this potentially transformational economic venture.
Meanwhile, another local government entity, the Bryan ISD school board, also seems to be playing a role in securing this major development for the region. The agenda for their next meeting, scheduled for the upcoming Monday, June 17, includes a continued discussion concerning the legal requirements and financial terms of the Jeti Tax Incentive Program. The applicant for the proposed property tax break has not been disclosed at this time.
The arrival of a new $10 billion dollar manufacturing plant could make a significant difference to the local economy. The promised investment capital could trigger extensive employment opportunities, and put the Bryan city and Brazos County on the industrial map. This development also reflects a confirmation of the trusts vested by the governing bodies in the potential and capabilities of the Rellis Campus. As the local community anxiously awaits more news, this proposition already signifies a victory for the economic prospects of the Rellis Campus and surrounding areas.
