REI Store to Open in College Station in Fall 2024

Introduction

College Station, Texas – Exciting news for the outdoorsmen in College Station as the popular outdoor retail store, REI Co-op, is confirmed to open a new store here in Fall 2024. The information was confirmed on Wednesday and the new store is slated to open next to the soon-open Crunch Fitness gym on University Drive.

What REI promises

The store promises to cater to a broad array of outdoor needs offering gear for camping, cycling, running, fitness, hiking, climbing, and more. The store plans to feature a full-service bike shop staffed with certified mechanics, providing expertise for adventurous cyclists.

What the regional director has to say

Expressing her excitement, Kristen Engels, the REI regional director, expressed, “College Station and the surrounding region have many natural places to play, explore and relax, so being outside can be part of everyday life. With incredible settings for hiking, camping, mountain biking, trail running, and much more so close to the city, we look forward to being a resource when we open our 11th store in the state. We also are excited to develop partnerships with local nonprofits to support their efforts to welcome more people outside.”

  • Location: The store will be located in University Park at 615 University Drive East, College Station, TX, adjacent to the soon to open Crunch Fitness gym.
  • Store size: The store will extend over an expansive 21,732 square feet, ensuring ample room for a broad range of products and services.
  • REI co-op Membership: In College Station, it already boasts 7,000 members. In the broader Waco-Temple-Bryan region, the figures stand at 32,300 members, and across Texas, they have a whopping 1.44 million members.

Benefits of REI Co-Op Membership

Being a member of REI Co-op comes with its rewards. These include a used gear trade-in program called Re/Supply, discounts on shop services and experiences, a share of the co-op’s annual profits based on qualifying purchases, and more. Moreover, for every new membership purchased, the co-op pledges $5 to support the REI Cooperative Action Fund, a community-supported nonprofit organization.

All set to hire

As part of its commitments to the local community, REI expects to hire approximately 40 employees for the new College Station store. The company will be inviting online applications, and new employees will enjoy a variety of benefits, including generous product and service discounts, competitive pay, and retirement contributions. Health insurance will be offered to both full-time and part-time employees.
