COLLEGE STATION, Texas – In a society where quality education often comes with a hefty price tag, one couple is breaking the norm with their affordable preschool in the heart of College Station. Erika Montez and her husband, the leaders of the Bright Light Christian Learning Center, have created an educational haven that not only nurtures young minds but does so with the family budget in mind. A feat so extraordinary has earned the couple this week’s “Be Remarkable” award.
Located in a small church off Highway 30, the Learning Center offers quality education to the local community at an incredibly affordable price. The Montezs’ unwavering commitment to provide low-cost early childhood education has turned the preschool into a beacon of hope for many families. Starting with 15 students, the Learning Center now houses 21 eager learners, with a goal to increase this to 30 in the following year.
Interestingly, this initiative was not part of their original plan. Originally from California, the couple moved to Texas after Erika was laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They used insurance money from her mother’s passing to start this low-cost private school, a mission they have relentlessly pursued since relocating to Brazos Valley.
The couple’s efforts already have parents singing their praises. “My son has grown so much academically, socially, and spiritually, thanks to what Erika has built here,” said Julie Bailey, a parent at Bright Light Christian Learning Center.
To maintain the remarkably low tuition fee of $150 per month, the Montez family has been reliant on donations and even dipped into their savings to cover costs. So committed is Erika to this cause that she has chosen to forego a personal salary, truly embodying a servant’s heart.
The impact of the Montez family’s initiative is hard to ignore. Their tireless dedication to providing affordable, quality education to the College Station community has rightfully earned them the “Be Remarkable” award, a weekly accolade given jointly by a local TV station and a law firm. Their story serves as an inspiring reminder of the power of selflessness and the difference it can make in the lives of many.
The “Be Remarkable” award is a weekly tribute that recognizes those in the community who go above and beyond to serve others. If you know someone worthy of the award, nominations can be submitted through the award’s official website.
