April 16 was a spectacular day for the residents of Bryan-College Station, as the community came together for the much-anticipated annual Pink Fashion Show. Hosted by the dedicated team at PELDEM (Presente en la Lucha de Mama), this year marked the third anniversary of this heartwarming event designed to support local families battling breast cancer.
Around the heart of this event lies the incredible mission of PELDEM, which aims to uplift families facing the harsh realities of cancer. This time, they honored two remarkable families, Maria De Los Angeles and Lilian Ponce, whom they have been supporting with essential services such as financial aid, nutrition, housekeeping, and childcare. Both families have shown incredible strength, courage, and resilience in their fight against breast cancer.
Maria De Los Angeles, a mother of five, received her breast cancer diagnosis earlier this year, while Lilian Ponce, who has a beautiful 9-year-old daughter, credits her faith in God for providing her the strength to navigate this tough journey. Keeping an open line of communication, PELDEM members embrace these families as part of their extended family, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
With a goal to double the turnout from previous years, this year’s Pink Fashion Show was a grand affair. Models took to the runway in stunning pink outfits, each empowered to share their unique stories. The emotional depth of this event was palpable, as models and attendees supported one another in solidarity against the fight against breast cancer.
The runway was not only a stage for showcasing fashion but also a platform for voices to be heard. Models were invited to write and read speeches as they walked, sharing their experiences and the power of community support. Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, the Aggieland Mariachi entertained the guests with lively performances, making the audience sway between rounds of the fashion show.
The event also included various engaging activities, such as tables featuring delicious food and creatively decorated bras, sparking conversations and encouraging guests to appreciate the artistry while supporting the cause. Guests had the option to capture joyful moments at a picturesque pink photo backdrop, creating memories of this meaningful day.
PELDEM’s efforts were clearly reflected in their extensive outreach to promote the Pink Fashion Show. The team organized community outreach initiatives, distributing flyers far and wide, and fostering relationships with various local organizations to rally support. Their hard work paid off, as the sense of community throughout the event was profound, with many attendees describing PELDEM not just as an organization, but as a true family.
Email reminders of the impactful event came as PELDEM’s director of operations underscored the emotional weight of having the sponsored families present. Each family member shared in the camaraderie that marked the evening, building a hopeful future for everyone involved.
As the sun set over Bryan-College Station, the third annual Pink Fashion Show stood as a testament to the incredible power of community support and the brave spirits of those facing breast cancer. With love, laughter, and a whole lot of pink, they showed that together, they can shine a light on the darkest of days.
