Texas A&M Expands Fine Arts Options for Students

The Texas A&M School of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts has captivated the attention of the student body and faculty with the announcement of a new bachelor’s program in Music Performance, to be launched this fall. This new degree stands alongside the already esteemed offerings such as Dance Science, Theatre, and Visualization.

Fine-Tuning the Course Structure

Initially, the program will be available for current students who want to change their major or those seeking to transfer to the university. In the subsequent spring semester, the department will open up auditions for incoming students who are interested in this musical journey. The 120-credit hours major includes 42 hours in general education core curriculum, 36 hours in required major courses, 24 in prescribed electives, and 18 in general electives. The design of the electives facilitates students’ choice of a minor, without exceeding the 120 credit-hour curriculum.

Touching the Right Notes

Building a foundation in music theory, students enrolled in the Music Performance program will be required to complete courses in Music Theory I, II, and III. The curriculum will also include six hours of individual performance instruction. The instruction will carry a structure of private lessons, grouped according to the families of the instruments.

Senior students majoring in Music Performance will take a Music Performance Studio course accompanied by a Music Performance Capstone course.
