In a shocking turn of events, a new assistant at Texas A&M, Blaise Taylor, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Utah last Thursday following an indictment by a Nashville grand jury on two counts of first-degree murder. The charges involve the deaths of his girlfriend, Jade Benning, and her unborn baby on February 25, 2023, believed to be Taylor’s child.
According to the investigators, after poisoning Benning, Taylor called 911 and reported her to be experiencing an allergic reaction. She was immediately transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center by ambulance, where her condition progressively worsened. Her unborn child died two days later on February 27, with Benning losing her fight for life on March 6.
Interestingly, Taylor had recently joined the A&M Athletics staff as an assistant. As of Friday afternoon, his name was still found listed as a senior athletic assistant to the Director of Athletics in the Texas A&M employee directory. However, a spokesperson for the Athletics Department has stated that they are currently investigating his employment status with the university.
Head Football Coach at Texas A&M, Mike Ellko, opened up about the situation, expressing his condolences to all those affected, while maintaining the importance of waiting for the courts’ decision in providing justice. In his exact words, Mike Ellko stated, “Our thoughts are with all those affected by this heartbreaking situation, including the family and friends of the victim.”
Blaise Taylor is no stranger to the sporting world. His father, Trooper Taylor, is a respected figure in the sporting community, currently serving as an associate head coach and a running backs coach at A&M’s football team. Blaise himself was a four-year starter for Arkansas State in College and has also worked for the Tennessee Titans in their pro scouting department.
Following the deaths of Benning and the unborn child, Taylor moved to Utah and worked at Utah State University as a senior defensive analyst for the 2023 season. Metropolitan Nashville Police intend to collaborate with Utah authorities to expedite Taylor’s return to Nashville, a process that is expected to take several weeks.
The legal proceedings in the double murder case against Blaise Taylor are expected to unfold in the coming weeks. As the Tennessee and Utah law enforcement officials coordinate his move back to Nashville, many wait anxiously to see the next unfolding chapter in this tragic occurrence tracing back to February 2023.
