His time in office, serving the city of Bryan from 2007 to 2010, was marked by several key developments and progress.
During Conlee’s tenure as mayor, the city of Bryan saw significant growth and prosperity. Renowned educational institute, Texas A&M University, selected Bryan as the site for its TAMU System Health Science Center, adding a prestigious feather to the city’s cap. Additionally, Conlee presided over the creation of the Joint Community Emergency Operations Center, Twin Oaks Landfill project, Bryan Fire Station Number Five, and the Bryan-Brazos County Economic Development Foundation. Apart from his career in public service, Conlee, along with his wife Cathay Conlee, was a seasoned entrepreneur. The couple began their journey in 1976 by launching 3C Barbeque in Culpepper Plaza. Their business venture later extended to the opening of Cathy’s Corner convenience store in 1983 and the Red Bandana restaurant in 1985. In addition to these ventures, Conlee also invested time and resources into rental property real estate in Bryan, further contributing to the local economy.
Mark Conlee’s demise is a significant loss both for Bryan’s political realm and the business community. Throughout his life, he proved to be an effective leader, a committed public servant, and a successful entrepreneur, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations. He is survived by his wife Cathay Conlee, who, alongside him, has made outstanding contributions to the city of Bryan.
A service in his remembrance was held on Tuesday at the Bryan City Cemetery. As the city mourns the loss of their former mayor, a remarkable life full of incredible achievements will be remembered and honored by all.
In a time of sorrow, the city of Bryan stands unified in honoring the life and legacy of Mark Conlee.
