Local Residents Return to Jail Following Arrests by Bryan and College Station Police
Erika Jenkins, a Repeat Offender, Faces a Series of Charges
In a shocking turn of events, a Bryan woman was placed under arrest for the 37th time in 15 years, just two weeks after serving 336 days in jail for two felony thefts. 36-year-old Erica Jenkins found herself back in Brazos County jail following her recent arrest on Tuesday, April 16.
Jenkins was initially under investigation for a theft that took place at a local convenience store. According to two Bryan police officers who were interviewing her, Jenkins attempted to mislead them by giving a false name. When it became clear she was going to be arrested, Jenkins resorted to physical violence, kicking the knees and stomping the feet of both officers. One of the officers even sustained bite injuries.
Additional Charges Against Jenkins
These violent assaults led to further charges against Jenkins, which include assaulting the officers, resisting arrest, tampering with a government record, and possession of P-C-P (phencyclidine); a powerful hallucinogen more commonly known as angel dust.
Another Local Resident, Arrested Twice in a Week
Meanwhile, a Bryan man, 53-year-old Joe Almaraz, found himself in police custody for the second time in seven days. On Monday night, April 15, a police officer on patrol at an apartment complex in College Station was approached by a woman who was reportedly threatened by a man on a moped.
With the help of another citizen, Almaraz was located. His moped turned out to be stolen, and he was found to be carrying two black bags with 107 items of stolen mail. Among these items were seven debit and credit cards as well as nine checks. Additionally, a bag containing methamphetamine was also found on Almaraz.
Almaraz’s History with Crime
Almaraz was previously out on bond following his arrest by Bryan police on April 9 for vehicle burglaries, possessing more items containing personal identity information, and possessing a controlled substance. After his recent offenses, it’s uncertain what will unfold for Almaraz.
