Liquor Thieves Target a Trio of Businesses in Bryan, Texas
In a series of incidents that happened in College Station and Bryan, a group of thieves targeted three liquor stores, walking away with several hundred dollars’ worth of liquor. The businesses targeted include Liquor Mart, Libations Liquor, and an outlet of Specs off University Drive.
1. Theft at Liquor Mart
At Liquor Mart, thieves stole $650 worth of liquor. Delaney Befort, a staffer, said the theft involved three men and a woman, who were caught on camera stuffing bottles into their pants and purse over a span of 10 minutes. “The money they took equals our utility bill,” lamented Befort, indicating the significant impact that the theft had on their business.
2. Theft at Libations Liquor
Libations Liquor was the next store targeted by the thieves, where they managed to steal about $700 worth of liquor. Kristine Merritt, an employee, recounted how three men worked in coordination to distract the cashier whilst stealing the bottles. “I didn’t realize they had taken anything until they had left, and it was really frustrating,” said Merritt. It was not the first time that the liquor store has experienced such theft, with another incident occurring in May 2023.
3. Theft at Specs
Specs was the final store impacted. Staff confirmed that a rushed theft took place on Monday night, but there was no confirmation that it was related to the ones at Liquor Mart and Libations Liquor.
Encouraging Businesses to Report
Both Liquor Mart and Libations Liquor claimed that the thieves appeared to be well-coordinated, utilizing certain members of the group to distract employees while others carried out the theft. Seth Waller, the Bryan Police Public Information Officer, urged business owners to promptly report any such incidents to the police to enable a thorough investigation. “Do your best to try to pay attention to everyone in the store. If you think it’s happening, call 9-1-1, let us come out, encourage an investigation, and let us talk to those involved,” advised Waller.
