In an exciting turn of events, Ja’Qualon Scott of Texas A&M’s track and field team broke his own school record on the sixth day of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials held at Hayward Field. His historic run in the men’s 110m hurdles, crossing the line at 13.09 seconds, moved him up to fifth place in NCAA history.

Scott Smashes His Own Record

Scott had previously set a record just four days earlier during the men’s 110m hurdles final. His extraordinary performance this Friday not only ranks him fifth overall in his chosen event but also places him fifth all-time in NCAA history.

Moreover, the fifth day of trials welcomed Brandon Miller and James Smith on the final’s list. Both qualified for their respective finals, with Miller ranking second overall with a personal-best time of 1:43.73 in the 800m, and Smith qualifying with a timing of 49.43 in the 400m hurdles.

Up and Coming Stars

The women’s 100m hurdles duo of Kaylah Robinson and Jaiya Covington also made their mark. Both secured their spots in the semifinals with impressive performances, recording times of 13.08 and 13.14 seconds, respectively.

Global Representation

Heather Abadie showcased her skills in the women’s pole vault at the Canadian Olympic Trials, where the two-time SEC champion secured a third-place finish with a vault of 4.28m/14-0.5. Meanwhile, freshman marvel Abigail Martin took third place in the discus throw at the Jamaican Olympic Trials, recording a mark of 57.24m/187-9.

Next on the Schedule

The track and field team now awaits the performance of Covington and Robinson in the semifinals of the 100m hurdles on Saturday. They will be followed by Shamier Little and Deshae Wise in the 400m hurdles semifinals and Natosha Rogers in the 10,000m.
