John Edward Martinez, previously employed at Still Creek Ranch, faces serious charges after allegations of inappropriate contact with minors were reported. The organization is cooperating fully with investigations, demonstrating a commitment to child safety and support for the victims. The community remains in shock as more details unfold in this disturbing case.
In a shocking turn of events, a 57-year-old man from Bryan has been arrested on multiple counts of indecency with a child. John Edward Martinez was taken into custody by the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office on February 7, facing three charges regarding inappropriate contact with minors.
Still Creek Ranch, a facility dedicated to helping boys and girls coming from crisis situations, is now at the center of an investigation following startling allegations against Martinez. As soon as they were notified of the accusations, the organization did the right thing by reporting it to law enforcement and Child Protective Services. Martinez is no longer employed at Still Creek Ranch, signaling the organization’s serious commitment to child safety and well-being.
The chain of events began on January 20 when sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about a possible sexual assault at Still Creek Ranch. It was here that a teenager under Martinez’s care stepped forward, revealing troubling details. This teen reported being subjected to unwanted physical contact and taken to Martinez’s private room, where he allegedly engaged in inappropriate acts.
What’s even more alarming is that the room where the alleged abuse took place was devoid of any cameras, and Martinez reportedly locked the door during these incidents. According to police reports, he would touch the victims inappropriately—specifically their breasts and buttocks—under their clothing and would sometimes do so against their will. He even went so far as to offer money or trips to the mall in exchange for massages.
Child Protective Services quickly moved to inform law enforcement about additional victims on January 22. During their investigation, Martinez admitted to breaking the rules at Still Creek Ranch, including spending unsupervised time alone with minors and offering them payment for massages. However, he attempted to play down his behavior by describing it as merely inappropriate rather than criminal.
Martinez further claimed that the teens might have been retaliating against him for enforcing rules, but the young people contended that he even threatened their housing at Still Creek Ranch if they didn’t comply with his demands.
On January 27, forensic interviews with the alleged victims revealed that the inappropriate conduct reportedly began in March 2024 and persisted until January 2025. One victim shared their distressing experience of being coerced into giving Martinez a massage, all while he made suggestive noises, instilling fear of potential repercussions if they refused.
Martinez’s alleged actions have led to his booking in the Brazos County jail on February 7, from where he was released the following day after posting a $150,000 bond. This case is generating significant concern and heartbreak within the community, especially among those dedicated to child welfare.
In light of these distressing allegations, Still Creek Ranch expressed sorrow over the situation and reiterated their zero-tolerance policy for any violations of child safety protocols. They reassured the community that thorough background checks and reference reviews had been conducted prior to hiring Martinez, showing no issues at that time.
Additionally, Central Church, where Martinez also volunteered previously, has emphasized its commitment to child safety. Their leaders highlighted the thorough screening process for volunteers, aiming to assure the public that they have mechanisms in place to protect vulnerable children. The church has a youth ministry that involves children who interacted with Martinez, prompting them to renew their focus on safeguarding these youngsters.
Both organizations involved have pledged to fully cooperate with ongoing investigations as the community grapples with these unsettling revelations. The city of Bryan and its residents await further developments, hoping for justice and for the safety of their children to remain a top priority.
