The Aggieland Humane Society is reaching out to those who are staying home this season to consider fostering adorable animals in need.

Katrina Ross, the Executive Director at Aggieland Humane Society, recently shared on WTAW’s The Infomaniacs about the organization’s pressing need for foster homes. Thanks to last year’s influx of furry friends, there was significant overcrowding as students left town for Christmas. To avoid a repeat of that situation, they are hoping to recruit local residents who can provide temporary homes for their animals during the holiday break.

Despite the plans for this multipurpose building featuring six tennis courts, 12 pickleball courts, and six volleyball courts, it seems the project just couldn’t stay within the budget of $17 million. It would have allowed Texas A&M to host SEC and NCAA tournaments, which sounded like a win-win for sports enthusiasts in Bryan. Now, both the city and the university are expected to share the costs already spent—an impressive $851,943 split down the middle.

This facility was projected to generate quite a bit of economic activity, estimating $3 million in its first year and growth to $4.4 million by year five. It’s a disappointing development for both sports lovers and local businesses who were counting on that boost in the economy.

Some Unwelcome News on the Crime Front

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old Bryan man named Ethan Weeks found himself in a situation too, being held on charges of violating a protection order. Authorities believe he threatened a woman with a gun, escalating his legal troubles further. As of now, Weeks is being held on bonds totaling an eye-watering $75,500.

To add to the unsettling incidents, three men were arrested outside M.C. Harris alternative school after a front desk receptionist reported suspicious activity in the parking lot. The trio was caught entering a vehicle and stealing a wallet containing a staggering $41,000. All three remain in jail with bonds of $8,000 each as of December 6, it’s safe to say that the holiday spirit could be somewhat tarnished by these actions.
