Heartfelt Farewell in Bryan, TX: Community Remembers Rose Ann Shirley

BRYAN, TX – A strong pillar of the Bryan community, Rose Ann Shirley Springfield, 61, passed away on a chilly afternoon, December 3, 2024, at the Accel Skilled Nursing facility in College Station. Known for her warm spirit and dedication to both her family and her work, Rose’s life journey was one filled with love, laughter, and a commitment to uplifting those around her.

A Life Well Lived

Born on September 4, 1963, in Fort Benning, GA, Rose was raised in a loving family, nurtured by her parents, Jeff Shirley, Jr. and Katherine (Keaton) Shirley. Her childhood adventures began in Shreveport, LA, before her family found roots in Texarkana, TX, where Rose demonstrated early signs of leadership and compassion.

A graduate of Texas High School, she made a significant mark through her active participation in the Future Farmers of America (FFA), earning the esteemed Lone Star Farmer Degree. This accolade is the highest recognition given by the Texas FFA Association, showcasing her dedication to agriculture and community service. Rose had a special fondness for red Brahman cattle, dreaming of owning a registered herd and sharing those cherished moments fishing and caring for livestock.

Education and Career

Rose’s academic journey took her to Texas A&M University, where she accelerated her studies and completed a degree in Agricultural Business Management in just three and a half years. True to her Aggie spirit, she developed a passion for Aggie football that stayed with her throughout her life. Rose married Dr. Clark Springfield, III on June 23, 1984, and the duo enjoyed a loving partnership that spanned 40 wonderful years, despite relocating an incredible 27 times across Texas and beyond for Clark’s career.

Back home in Bryan since 2017, Rose found immense joy managing a herd of meat goats and assisting Clark in their stocker cattle operation. Weekly date nights became a cherished tradition, where the couple would check on their cattle, create memories, and enjoy each other’s company.

A Woman of Faith

Rose lived her life reflecting her deep faith in Christ. As an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bryan, she passionately taught kindergarten Sunday School classes and participated in small Bible study groups. Her friends often remarked on her sweet and compassionate nature; she had a gift for sharing her faith story with anyone who needed encouragement.

A Legacy of Love

In addition to her professional accomplishments, including being an academic advisor at Blinn College and receiving the NISOD Excellence Award, Rose truly treasured her time spent with family and friends. Her roots in south Louisiana brought a flair for gathering people together, often marked by fishing trips, fried fish feasts, and lively discussions about LSU, Arkansas, and Aggie football. Such joyful gatherings at their camp on Toledo Bend showcased her love for life and connection with others.

Remembering Rose

Rose is survived by her devoted husband, stepmother Brenda Shirley, brother Jeff Shirley, III and wife, stepbrother Rob Engster, as well as numerous family members, including nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and three beloved pets: Roxie, Bella, and Jewell.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, at the First Baptist Church of Bryan, officiated by Dr. Tim Watson. Family and friends are invited to come together in memory of a truly special person who touched many lives with her kindness and dedication.

Though Rose may no longer be with us in person, her spirit will undoubtedly continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved and cherished her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and determination that will inspire many for years to come.
