Heartfelt Goodbye to Frankie Joyce Sebesta, Beloved Mother and Community Pillar of College Station

College Station has gathered together to mourn the loss of a truly remarkable woman, Frankie Joyce Sebesta, who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 90 on December 29, 2024. Frankie was visiting family in Hilltop Lakes when she left this world, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, community service, and dedication to her family.

A Life Well-Lived

Born on November 7, 1934, in Boling, Texas, to Lydia Mae and Frank J. Sabrsula, Frankie’s journey was marked by accomplishments and cherished relationships. She graduated from Boling High School, where her peers adored her, naming her the FFA Sweetheart and voting her Class Favorite. Her high school days were filled with various activities—from playing the French horn in the school band to competing in tennis and excelling in typing.

After her high school graduation, Frankie pursued further education at Durham’s Business School in Houston, setting the stage for her diverse professional journey. In 1954, she started a new chapter in Bryan with her young family after a brief move to Virginia. Throughout her life, she built strong foundations in both her career and family life.

A Devoted Family Matriarch

Frankie became a mother at just 21, welcoming her first son, Jeff, in 1956, followed by Glenn, Jimmy, and J.D. Joyce. For more than two decades, she was a devoted mother, attending every school event and baseball game her sons participated in. Family meals, prepared with love, were a staple of her household, and she took pride in cooking hearty breakfasts and fulfilling special requests.

Education was vital to Frankie, as she encouraged her four sons to learn vital skills, including typing, which demonstrates her belief in the importance of knowledge. Communication with her extended family was equally essential; she maintained close relationships with her sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, ensuring that the ties of love and support remained strong.

A Spiritual Anchor

Frankie’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a loyal member of both Central Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Bryan, drawing strength from her deep spiritual beliefs. Her favorite scriptures, such as Jeremiah 33:3 and Psalm 46:10, guided her throughout her life. Additionally, she played an active role in charitable programs and church groups, making a meaningful impact in her community.

For 19 years, Frankie shared her passion for knowledge by volunteering with the Discovery program for international students at Texas A&M University. She also led the Triple L group (Living Longer and Loving It) at Central Baptist Church for many years. As a docent at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library in College Station, she welcomed visitors and shared her love for her community.

A Culinary Passion

Frankie’s welcoming nature and hospitality were legendary. She enjoyed sharing homemade meals with friends and neighbors and had a particular talent for baking. Known for her delicious cinnamon rolls, homemade bread, peanut brittle, and shortbread, her culinary gifts were loved by many.

A Multifaceted Career

Professionally, Frankie was versatile, working as a secretary for the International Shoe Company and later as a legal secretary. She even obtained her real estate license, showcasing her adaptability and eagerness to thrive in a changing world. In 2018, she and her second husband, Earl Sebesta, moved to the Langford independent living facility in College Station, where they enjoyed their retirement until Earl’s passing in August 2023.

A Lasting Memory

Frankie’s family, including her surviving brother Elmer Sabrsula, her four sons, and a proudly growing lineage, will greatly miss her. As we prepare to celebrate her life, funeral services are arranged for January 11, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Bryan, with visitation on January 10, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Frankie’s memory to Hospice Brazos Valley, honoring her loving spirit and commitment to helping others.

Frankie Joyce Sebesta—she was more than a mother and a community member; she was a bright light who touched countless lives. Her legacy of love, faith, and strong family values will continue to inspire all who knew her.
