COLLEGE STATION, Texas — With the return of students for the academic year, College Station, commonly referred to as Aggieland, is witnessing a vibrant economic activity. This is predominantly driven by local businesses and the exhilarating football season. Just this previous summer, A&M Athletics had reported generating a staggering revenue of over $6 million from two events alone: a soccer match between Brazil and Mexico and a concert by George Strait. Interestingly, both events saw an audience that equaled the attendance numbers of a home game.
Kyle Field, the football stadium at Texas A&M is an undoubted economic engine for College Station. In the previous year, the average home game attendance was close to a whopping 100,000 fans. It’s no wonder then that entertainment businesses are eyeing this booming crowd as a strategic opportunity. One such business, the PopStroke Entertainment Group, deftly opened its doors right in time for the much-awaited football season, underscoring the economic significance of sports in College Station.
In the past week alone, tens of thousands of students have flocked back to Aggieland for the start of another exciting school year. With their arrival, the end of the summer lull for local businesses has finally come to an end. PopStroke Entertainment Group, a recent addition to College Station’s entertainment landscape, shares its observed optimism about this activity.
Not to forget, football season isn’t simply about the games. Tailgating is an event unto itself and contributes significantly to local economic activity. As per local shopper Brenda, “This is our first stop and we’ve already spent over $100. I’m thinking we’re going to hit about $100 at every other store, and we’ve got two more stops. It definitely adds up quickly.”
Last year, Kyle Field boasted an impressive average home attendance of 99,234 fans in total, with a complete count of 694,639 fans attending the seven home games. This year is slated to be no different; season tickets have already been sold out for the second consecutive year. Looking at these numbers, it’s clear that College Station thrives during this football season.
In conclusion, with seven home games scheduled this year and a town bustling with life, it’s evident that the business in Aggieland is back in full swing, and football plays a large part in it.
