Several Brazos Valley Roads Flooded After Sunday Storms, Hundreds Without Power

The Brazos Valley is dealing with the aftermath of a vicious storm that saw heavy rainfall, gale-force winds, and hail on Sunday. Consequently, many roads are flooded, making them impassable, and power has been cut to over 1,000 residents.
Warnings and Power Outages
The College Station Police Department issued a critical warning, imploring inhabitants to refrain from driving on flood-hit roads for their safety. The statement was clear: “There are multiple reports of flooded roadways around College Station. Please be safe, turn around, do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways, or any roads that have been shut down by law enforcement or City Streets department.”
In a collateral issue, Bryan Texas Utilities reported approximately 1,000 customers without power due to lightning damage to a pole and wiring alongside Hwy 21 and FM 2776. Repair crews are currently on the case attempting to restore power as soon as possible.
Milam and Walker County – Flood-Related Issues
In Milam County, flooding has considerably disrupted travel. The sheriff’s office reported water over the roadway at the railroad overpass between Rogers and Buckholts. As a consequence, traffic is being detoured and several road closures have been mandated. Alternate routes have been suggested for commuters from both Milam and Bell Counties. Additionally, multiple other roads in the area have been submerged, necessitating further closures and amplifying travel difficulties.
Meanwhile, in Walker County, according to the Office of Emergency Management, several roads in Precinct 1 are currently closed due to high water levels, including Bishop Rd, Gurrant Rd, Wire Rd, Round Prairie Rd, and Flynt Rd. A state road, FM2989 is also shut down due to flooding, and there are reports of a water rescue operation in progress at FM2989 at Old Midway Rd.
Grimes County – Road Closures and Flood-Related Dangers
Grimes County is not spared from the adverse road conditions brought on by the heavy rain and ensuing floods. The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office has been updating the public on road closures and areas with water over the roadways. The affected roads include CR 104, CR 107, CR 118, and CR 125, which are currently closed. There is water over the roadway at numerous other locations as well.
Authorities are emphatic in their advice to desist from trying to navigate through flooded roads due to the high risk of being swept away. They caution that water levels and flow rates can be deceptive under flood conditions, posing substantial risks to drivers.
Monday Morning Update on Road Status
Early Monday, the Madison County Office of Emergency Management urged the public to refrain from unnecessary travel. Reports indicate that numerous roads are dangerous and several others are impassable, including FM 247 into Walker County and Highway 90 due to the Bedias Creek overflowing its banks.
