Brazos County on high alert for potential flooding Saturday and Sunday

As the dark clouds gather and rain starts to pour down, authorities in Brazos County are on high alert Saturday and Sunday due to a flood watch warning issued by the National Weather Service Office in Houston.

National Weather Service Warning

The National Weather Service Office in Houston has extended a flood watch for Brazos County until 1 pm on Sunday. The warning is clear: “Prepare for possible flooding.” The Weather Service anticipates isolated strong to severe storms to occur late Saturday and early Sunday. One to 3 inches of rain is expected with the wind gusts posing the main threat.

Hail and tornadoes not ruled out

The weather service however, keeps the doors of uncertainty open as hail and isolated tornadoes have not been completely ruled out. This raises the bar of preparedness for the residents of Brazos County.

A record flood stage is anticipated for the Navasota River and minor flooding for the Brazos River over the weekend. It’s a grim forecast and the stakes are high.
