As the leaves begin to change and the air crispens, there’s plenty of fall fun waiting for you at the Bryan-College Station Libraries this October! Whether you’re looking to get lost in a spooky story or showcase your creative skills, these libraries are offering a range of activities that’ll be sure to entertain all ages.
First up on the agenda is the exciting Hallow-Read Challenge. This challenge is designed for people of all ages to delve into the world of spooky reads! All you need to do is pick out any five books that send shivers down your spine, read them between October 1 and October 31, log your reading, and voilà—you’ll earn a completion prize, as long as supplies last! So, gather your family and friends and start exploring those eerie stories that make Halloween extra special.
If discussing literature is more your style, don’t miss the Sunshine Book Club meeting on October 9 at the Clara B. Mounce Library. This month’s title is the classic novel Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. Join the group in the first-floor conference room at 10 a.m. for engaging conversations about the haunting mysteries woven throughout the narrative. It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow readers, share insights, and maybe even make a few new friends.
For the younger crowd, there’s the Comic Panel, a graphic novel book club specifically for ages 12 to 17. They are diving into the enchanting story of The Witch Boy by Molly Knox Ostertag, which is sure to enthrall. Mark your calendar for Monday, October 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the Mounce Public Library. Snacks and books are provided, making for a chill and fun atmosphere where teens can explore the world of graphic novels together.
Feeling crafty? Don’t miss out on the chance to create some eerie decorations at the spider web crafting event at Ringer Library in College Station! Happening on Monday, October 21 at 6 p.m., this workshop will guide you in making spooky spider webs using an embroidery hoop. All supplies are provided, but make sure to register ahead of time to secure your spot.
What’s fall without some fun with pumpkins? Both libraries are hosting a pumpkin decorating contest throughout the month of October! You can stop by either the Clara B. Mounce Library or the Ringer Library to decorate your pumpkin and enter the contest. Just a quick note: carved or punctured pumpkins won’t be accepted, so be sure to stick to painting and decorating! The talented members of the Arts Council of Brazos Valley will choose the winners on October 21.
All in all, October at the Bryan-College Station Libraries is loaded with thrilling and delightful activities for everyone. So whether you’re reading spine-chilling tales, crafting festive decorations, or engaging in discussions about your favorite books, there’s something for everyone. Make sure to get involved and celebrate all that this spooky season has to offer!
