Exciting Transportation Changes and Community Events Unfold in Bryan and College Station

Exciting Developments on the Horizon for Bryan and College Station!

Hey there, residents of Bryan and College Station! There’s a lot happening in our neck of the woods, and we’ve got some juicy updates on transportation plans, campus expansions, and some news that might raise a few eyebrows!

Get Ready for the Brazos Inner Loop East!

First up, if you’re someone who drives around the area a lot, you’ll want to pay attention to the upcoming public meeting about the proposed “Brazos Inner Loop East”. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is hosting this gathering on November 7, from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Brazos Center. This is your chance to learn about the plans for a new highway that will wrap around the east side of our beloved Bryan and College Station!

The proposed route will start from north Bryan at FM 2828, loop around east of the Steep Hollow area, and end at William D. Fitch in College Station. While it’s super exciting, keep in mind that they won’t finalize the specific alignment until mid to late 2026! So, this meeting is essential if you want to be in the loop (pun intended). Your comments are welcome until November 22, 2024, whether you prefer mailing, emailing, or even leaving a voicemail—it’s up to you!

New Bike Lanes on George Bush!

Now, for all you cyclists out there, there’s something brewing on George Bush Drive. Starting November 4, College Station will see the first phase of bike lane improvements. This phase is focused on the intersection with Texas Avenue and aims to enhance bike accessibility for everyone on the road. The first phase is all set to be wrapped up by November 14, while the entire project will be completed by February 2025. Time to dust off those bicycles!

Halloween Revelries in Southside!

Switching gears to some local shenanigans, Halloween night in Southside brought a massive party attended by an estimated 400 to 500 people. Held at the home of two Texas A&M baseball players, Hayden Schott and Jace Laviolette, this bash caught the attention of both local police and Aggie Athletics. Police had to step in when the festivities became just a bit too loud!

And speaking of police intervention, it seems like the Halloween spirit carried over into some not-so-great decisions this year. A College Station officer’s routine patrol led to a reckless driving arrest involving a truck doing a burnout. Thankfully, the driver was arrested, but it was quite the sight to behold for those still out celebrating!

Drunk Driving Drama in Bryan!

Meanwhile, Bryan PD had their hands full with a shocking drunk driving incident on Halloween night as well. A 30-year-old woman, Latisha Narvell, was caught driving with a staggering breath alcohol level, over three times the legal limit! And if that wasn’t alarming enough, she had two children in her vehicle not secured in car seats! Let’s just say that Halloween night was quite an eventful and concerning one for our local law enforcement.

Blinn College Expands to Waller County!

In much more positive news, we’ve got some exciting educational developments! Blinn College has announced the purchase of 100 acres for a new campus in Waller County, just over $19.5 million, and funded entirely through unrestricted cash! While no completion timeline has been given just yet, this new campus will offer both academic coursework and workforce training programs, joining their already established facilities in Brenham, Bryan, and more.

Dr. Mary Hensley, the Chancellor of the Blinn College District, shared how thrilled they are to bring more educational opportunities to the local community. With a strong reputation for academic transfer rates, Blinn aims to continue helping students transition smoothly to four-year universities. Super exciting times lie ahead for students and residents alike!

Well, there you have it, folks! From highway plans to campus expansions and a dash of Halloween drama, there’s never a dull moment in Bryan and College Station. Be sure to stay engaged and enjoy everything our vibrant community has to offer!
