Downtown Bryan Celebrates the Grand Reopening of the Historic LaSalle Hotel Following Extensive Renovation

Historic Hotel Celebration

Downtown Bryan Welcomes a Revamped LaSalle Hotel

Bryan, Texas, just got a little more charming! After a two-year, multi-million dollar renovation, the historic LaSalle Hotel has officially reopened its doors. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on September 17, 2024, marking a new chapter for this four-star boutique property that is now part of the Marriott Tribute brand.

Revitalizing a Historic Gem

Originally built in 1928, the LaSalle Hotel has always been a significant part of downtown Bryan’s landscape. The $6 million investment in renovations was bolstered by over $1 million in incentives from the Bryan city council, showcasing the community’s commitment to preserving its historical treasures. The hotel is set to generate at least $100,000 in hotel occupancy tax revenue by the end of 2025, indicating its potential for growth and economic contribution.

A Nod to the Past with Modern Touches

The renovations transform LaSalle into a place that pays homage to the past while offering modern comforts. The hotel embraces its historical roots, particularly the influence of the railroad on Bryan’s development, which positioned it at the crossroads of Texas’s key metropolitan areas. Guests will find a blend of boutique intimacy and the opulent styling reminiscent of the roaring 20s.

One of the highlights of the renovation is the new dining experience at Station 36, a restaurant that draws inspiration from classic dining cars. The hotel now features an outdoor event space called The Platform and a cozy subterranean speakeasy, aptly named the Boiler Room. “We wanted to give guests, and the citizens of Bryan, a hotel as memorable as the city itself,” said Jeremy Buffam, of New Castle Hotels & Resorts, the property’s owner. “The LaSalle strikes those notes of reverence and reverie in a way that we know visitors will find compelling.”

A Rich History

The LaSalle Hotel isn’t just any ordinary hotel; it has a fascinating history. It began life as a theater, then served as a hospital for returning Civil War soldiers, and eventually became a hotel in 1928. Legend has it that the building changed hands for 2,500 gold coins back in its day! Each corner of the hotel echoes with stories of travelers who have passed through its doors, creating a unique blend of nostalgia and modern luxury.

Community Support

Local officials have been vocal about the importance of this project. Mayor Bobby Guitterez stated, “The LaSalle is a critical historical asset in Downtown Bryan, and the New Castle team has done a tremendous job in assuring that it is preserved and celebrated.” This renovation is seen as a significant step towards enhancing Bryan’s allure as a cultural hub for both locals and visitors alike.

Looking Ahead

As the LaSalle Hotel continues to attract guests with its revamped offerings, it’s becoming a cornerstone of Bryan’s vibrant downtown area, which is filled with independent boutiques, bars, and restaurants. The goal is to not only cater to visiting travelers but also to engage with the local community, fostering a sense of connection between guests and residents.

The opening of the LaSalle Hotel is more than just a new place to stay; it is a renewed commitment to celebrating the history and culture of Bryan, Texas. As you explore downtown, be sure to check out this iconic hotel that beautifully blends the past with the present, creating a unique experience for all who step inside.
