College Station Volleyball Team Shines on the Road

In the vibrant city of College Station, the excitement for high school volleyball is buzzing! The College Station Lady Cougars took their talents on the road and brought home a fantastic victory against the Montgomery Lady Bears on a lively Tuesday night.

The match was a nail-biter, but the Lady Cougars overcame a shaky start, ultimately triumphing with scores of 20-25, 25-22, 25-9, and 25-14. This win marks their very first road victory in District 17-5A play this season, pushing their record to an impressive 20-8 overall and 2-0 in district matches.

Next up, the Lady Cougars are set to host the Huntsville Lady Hornets (8-21, 0-2) at Cougar Gym on Friday at 6 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the team as they continue their pursuit for success in district play!

Mumford’s Strong Performance Against Centerville

Moving to the neighboring town of Mumford, the Lady Mustangs also delivered a stellar performance on the road. They faced off against Centerville in a non-district match and proved to be a formidable opponent by sweeping them 25-14, 25-15, and 25-16.

Leading the charge for Mumford was Jayla Martinez, who made a remarkable impact with 11 kills and 11 digs. Meanwhile, Allison Scamardo contributed significantly with 17 digs and six kills, in addition to two aces. Setting up the plays beautifully was Ashlen Sloan, who dished out 17 assists. The teamwork was palpable as all the players, including Hallie Baldwin and Lily Beamon, wrapped up the match with strong serve performances.

This Friday at 4 p.m., the Lady Mustangs are set to host the defending 2A state champion Iola in what promises to be an engrossing matchup. Mark your calendars!

Rockdale Faces Tough Competition

In Rockdale, the Lady Tigers weren’t quite as lucky as they faced off against the Little River Academy. The match was a challenging one, as Rockdale fell short with scores of 25-20, 25-13, and 13-25 in their District 19-3A bout.

This loss wasn’t just limited to the varsity team; Rockdale’s junior varsity squad also struggled, while Little River Academy’s junior varsity defeated them 25-12, 25-23. The freshmen team managed to show some resilience, pushing through a tough match to bring home some momentum with a split against Academy.

Rockdale will be looking to bounce back as they host Thrall this Friday at 4:30 p.m. Can they turn the tide? Fans will surely be there to cheer them on!

Exciting Times in A&M Consolidated and Brazos

Elsewhere in the region, the A&M Consolidated volleyball team wrapped up their non-district play on a high note, securing a win over Lake Belton in four tightly-contested sets.

The Brazos Christian team also made headlines as they ended Round Rock Christian Academy’s incredible 73-consecutive district winning streak with a thrilling victory of 25-19, 27-29, 25-23, and 25-14. The coach highlighted the importance of staying strong, saying, “We’ve talked about weathering the storm a little bit, and I was really proud of us for that.”

With so much action unfolding on the volleyball courts this week, it’s clear the players are giving their all, and the community is showing up to support them every step of the way!
