New Report Reveals College Station as Top Spot for Retirees

College Station Emerges as a Retirement Haven

Recent data from the US Census Bureau identifies College Station, Texas as one of the fastest-growing retirement communities in America. A separate report by Realtor.com lists four Texas cities among the top ten go-to places for retirees, with College Station featuring prominently.

The city’s affordable housing, lower tax rates, and the availability of diverse services and amenities make it an appealing choice for retiring individuals. These factors, in tandem with increased investment in senior living communities, are catalyzing an influx of retirees to College Station.

Retirees Find a Home in College Station

A story shared by 88-year-old Zanna Bickham, a recent addition to the College Station retirement community, perfectly encapsulates the city’s allure. Seeking to escape isolation in West Texas, Zanna evaluated several potential havens before settling on College Station.

A city that she describes as “friendly” and “accessible,” College Station offers her access to healthcare, retail, and entertainment facilities within a comfortable radius. “You don’t have to go very far to get the things you want,” Zanna shares, asserting that the transition to College Station has considerably simplified her life.

Senior Living Facilities Witness Rising Demand

The upswing in the retiree population is reflected in the enrolment figures for the city’s various retirement communities. The Langford Retirement Community, for instance, has reported full occupancy for over a year now. Lisa Miller, a sales counselor at the facility, describes the growth as rapid but not entirely surprising considering the benefits the city offers its senior residents.

“Individuals don’t have to suffer a lot of bad traffic, they don’t have to go too far to get to any retail store, theater, marketplace of any kind,” Lisa explains, adding, “Honestly, the people are genuinely happy in this type of environment. It’s very pleasant.”

A Continuing Trend

As the retiring population continues to swell, several senior living estates, including Woodland Cottages and Lakeside at Millican Reserve, are at various stages of development to accommodate the growing demand. This trend underscores the city’s standing as a favored destination for retirees and points to sustained growth in the years to come.

As other cities strive to replicate College Station’s success, the city’s administration faces the task of ensuring that its infrastructure continues to keep pace with the needs of the vast and diverse retirement community that now calls it home.
