College Station Resident Celebrates Centennial Birthday
100 Years of Life Filled with Friendships and Memories
College Station, home to the grand Texas A&M University, celebrated a remarkable centenarian recently. Gladys Watson, a proud resident and indeed an Aggie herself, touched her milestone century mark amidst cheers, applause, and expressions of love from dear ones.
A True Texas Native Turns 100
Born in Paris, Texas, in 1924, Gladys later moved to College Station and quickly absorbed into the Aggie culture. Her affection towards the Aggies was evident as her husband, three of her four children, and several of her grandchildren have all attended Texas A&M University. Today, Gladys boasts a large family with five children, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Surprise Birthday Bash Brings Joy and Remembrance
In honor of her reaching the grand age of 100, her loved ones planned a surprise birthday party which, to Gladys’s delight, was attended by numerous friends and relatives. During the party, Gladys expressed her overwhelming gratitude for those in attendance, cherishing the love and companionship she had experienced throughout her life.
In her own words, “I could not believe so many friends and I would be here. But it’s fantastic. I’m just delighted. Even though I don’t expect to make another hundred years, however many I do make, I want to have the friends and all that I have, and I want to continue enjoying the friends that come. I love them.”
Living a Long Life – There’s No Secret, Really!
When asked about the secret to her long and healthy life, Gladys simply responded that she just took each day as it came. Her approach to life was equally simple, heartfelt, and devoid of any secret mantra. She enjoyed her life to the fullest, embracing every moment with grace, positivity, and acceptance. After all, said and done, it appears that living a fulfilling life, surrounded by loved ones, and taking life one day at a time was the ideal recipe for her longevity.
