In the bustling town of College Station, Texas, the spirit of giving was alive and well at a recent community celebration, where an impressive $1,285,814 was raised for local nonprofits during the annual Brazos Valley Gives event. This remarkable fundraising effort is not just a number, but a testament to the generosity and camaraderie of the people in the Brazos Valley.
As the community came together for this year’s event, excitement filled the air. The celebration was not just about the money raised but also about the relationships fostered among the 198 nonprofits that participated across all seven counties in the Brazos Valley. “We want to give our giving here locally because we’re passionate about the quality of life and the people living in our communities, and we want to support each other,” said Community Foundation President & CEO Patricia Gerling.
After six years of promoting this special day, the foundation sees the fruits of their labor. Brazos Valley Gives has become a beacon of hope for local charities aiming to make a positive change. “I think it’s so special when they’ve worked so hard to lift up this day and try to rally their constituency to give,” noted Brazos Valley Gives Co-Chair Molly Watson.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, the celebration also featured over $50,000 in prizes and grants distributed to various organizations. The joyous reactions from representatives of local nonprofits ranged from excited cheers to impromptu dances, proving that this funding truly makes a difference. “That is a huge impact to a nonprofit, any nonprofit big or small, and to see their faces and to see the dances they’re doing, we’re doing the happy dance too,” Watson commented, capturing the infectious enthusiasm of the day.
Looking back, the start of Brazos Valley Gives was no small feat. In its inaugural year, the event raised $363,000. Fast forward to the present, and it’s evident that this initiative has blossomed into a significant source of funding for numerous local causes. “When we think about food insecurity, when we think about youth development programs, when we think about the arts and healthcare, etc., many of the resources are the nonprofits in our community,” Gerling explained, emphasizing how vital these organizations are in addressing some of the most pressing issues facing the community.
In a time when many seek connection and purpose, events like Brazos Valley Gives highlight the importance of community support. The funds raised empower nonprofits to continue delivering essential services, enriching lives, and enhancing the quality of life for all residents. It’s a beautiful cycle of helping one another that resonates deeply with the values held dear in College Station.
The success of this year’s event leaves everyone eagerly anticipating what will come next. Will the community top this year’s remarkable total? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain: the people in College Station are committed to lifting each other up and continuing the tradition of generosity that defines the heart of the Brazos Valley.
As the community celebrates these accomplishments, they also look forward to the impact these funds will have in the coming months, ensuring that the spirit of giving and support continues to thrive in every corner of their beloved community.
