Hey there, College Station friends! We’ve got some important updates for you all that recently unfolded in our town. From traffic stops to unfortunate accidents, it’s definitely been a busy time. Let’s dive into the details!
First off, let’s talk about a recent incident involving a 38-year-old local resident, Kellyn Johnson. On July 28th, during a regular traffic stop, a Brazos County sheriff’s deputy noticed Johnson making a rather wide turn. This led to a search where the deputy discovered two fake social security cards. One of these cards, as reported, had a number connected to three individuals born in the years 1929, 1930, and 1960. Unfortunately, Johnson has been behind bars since her arrest due to these charges, along with a hold for immigration authorities. So, it seems like this story is far from over!
Now on a much heavier note, we’re saddened to report an incident from October 15th involving a city garbage truck. College Station police stated that a pedestrian lost their life after being struck by the vehicle. The victim was identified as 50-year-old Hilaire Kallendorf, who tragically crawled under the truck in the parking lot of the Lake Walk at Traditions apartment complex.
According to preliminary findings, Kallendorf intentionally crawled beneath the truck while the operator was doing their rounds, emptying a dumpster. It’s understood that he remained hidden for over 30 seconds before the truck backed away from the dumpster, leading to the unfortunate accident. The city’s investigation is ongoing, but initial reviews show no procedural or policy breaches, which is somewhat comforting in this unsettling situation.
The city expressed a heartfelt sentiment regarding the tragic loss. They have put a hold on garbage collection for the rest of the day following the incident. They assured residents that trash collection would resume the following day, albeit with a slight delay for those expected on Tuesday.
The city stated, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life involving a City of College Station solid waste vehicle… Our sincere and heartfelt condolences and prayers go to the family and all involved.” It’s a tough reminder of the risks that exist in our daily lives, and our hearts go out to Kallendorf’s family and friends as they navigate this tragic time.
In lighter news, Bryan Mayor Bobby Gutierrez took some time recently to discuss exciting projects and interests in the community. He touched on various topics such as election season, the Brazos Transit District’s growth, and even the potential for electric trolleys around town. It’s always nice to hear about the progress being made in our beautiful community!
On another note, the Texas A&M system has announced that a search is underway for a new chancellor. It seems they’re serious about ensuring a smooth transition once John Sharp steps down at the end of June 2025. There’s a search firm involved, so fingers crossed they find someone who nurtures the great traditions at Texas A&M!
So, College Station friends, that’s the scoop for now! From the somber news of a loss in our community to the exciting prospects on the horizon, it’s clear our town has a lot going on. Make sure to stay connected with local updates and keep supporting each other as we navigate the ups and downs together. Until next time, take care!
