Attention residents of College Station! The past week has been quite eventful with a mix of serious incidents and exciting updates across our community. Let’s dive into some of the noteworthy happenings that you may have missed.
First up, a 36-year-old man named Robert Cooper III has found himself in quite the predicament. He was arrested last Saturday (November 30) by the College Station police after an incident that has left many in shock. Reports state that Cooper allegedly struck his child between 10 and 30 times while parked in a vehicle at Walmart. Witnesses claim that the situation escalated when Cooper threw the child into the vehicle, prompting visible movement from the car due to the force of the hits. 😞
Upon arrival, officers discovered that the child, who is under the age of 15, had noticeable bruises, redness, swelling, and small patches of broken blood vessels. Although we hope for the best for the child, the arrest report didn’t mention if any medical treatment was provided. Cooper defended his actions by stating that he was merely disciplining the child with a spanking. As of today, he is being held in the Brazos County jail with a hefty bond of $75,000.
In another incident, the College Station Police arrested an 18-year-old woman named Yency Ramirez after she made a false report to 911. She had claimed that her husband was about to shoot her and her mother, which sparked a swift response from the police with multiple vehicles arriving on the scene with lights and sirens blaring. 🚓
After authorities arrived, they discovered that there was no actual threat; it was merely a heated argument. Ramirez is currently in jail facing a hold by immigration authorities. This situation serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible communication when it comes to emergencies.
Meanwhile, troubles have been brewing at Pebble Creek Elementary. A broken pipe led to severe flooding throughout the school, forcing its closure on Thursday, December 5th. CSISD announced that campus administrators will provide updates about the status of Friday classes before 4 p.m. on Thursday. Let’s hope the cleanup goes smoothly and kids are back in their classrooms soon! 🏫
In another pressing matter, residents at Southgate Village apartments are enduring hardships without natural gas and water. Brazos County Commissioner Wanda Watson addressed this issue during a meeting on December 3rd, expressing her gratitude to those who have helped the affected residents.
Watson also acknowledged the unfortunate timing of these outages, especially with the recent drop in temperatures. In her heartfelt remarks, she asked the community to keep those impacted in their thoughts and prayers. It’s important now more than ever to look out for one another!
On a different note, the Brazos County commissioners continue to hear from those protesting the proposed “inner loop east” highway that is expected to circle around the east side of Bryan and College Station. Local property owner, Beverly Greenwood, mentioned that a political action committee has been formed, as well as a dedicated website to rally opposition against the project.
If you have an opinion on this matter, remember that public comments are still being accepted by the Texas Department of Transportation and the B/CS Metropolitan Planning Organization. Your voice holds power in shaping our community!
That wraps up our update from College Station this week! Stay safe and keep looking out for each other as we work through challenges together.
