Hey there, College Station! There’s been a lot of action around town lately, from athletic accomplishments to neighborhood safety concerns. Let’s dive into the latest buzz!
First up, shout out to our fantastic Texas A&M volleyball team! The American Volleyball Coaches Association just revealed that two of the Aggies, Logan Lednicky and Ifenna Cos-Okpalla, have made it onto the prestigious All-Southwest Region Team. Could you imagine the pride these athletes must feel? This marks the third consecutive year that Lednicky has snagged this honor, while Cos-Okpalla is making her mark for the second time in a row.
Now for those who may not follow volleyball closely, let me tell you about Logan. This junior from Sugar Land, Texas, has been absolutely incredible this season. With an impressive total of 469 kills over 28 matches, she’s averaging approximately 4.47 kills per set! Can you believe she smashed the 20-kill mark in a game a whopping seven times this year? Talk about talent! To top it off, she’s helped her team by recording 98 blocks, contributing to a stunning total of 530.5 points, averaging 5.05 points per frame. Wow!
Then there’s Ifenna Cos-Okpalla, who has proven to be a formidable player on both offense and defense. With 220 kills and 151 blocks under her belt this season, she is definitely one to watch. Her kill tally is a personal best! If you do the math, she’s hitting at a scorching .374 percent and averaging a strong 1.44 blocks per set. Go Aggies!
While we’re talking about arrest records, let’s not forget about Darwin Brown, a 31-year-old inmate who reportedly assaulted a detention officer on Thanksgiving. After enjoying some time outdoors, he decided to strike instead of keep it peaceful. This incident adds to his existing list of charges, which include assaulting a public servant. Let’s hope he finds the right path soon!
Furthermore, the College Station community has recently dealt with some peculiar behavior regarding 911 calls. A man claimed to have a gun and expressed thoughts of self-harm, leading to a swift response from police and firefighters. Thankfully, it turned out to be a false alarm, but this gentleman has since learned that making such calls can lead to serious consequences. He was released shortly after posting bail, but authorities are urging everyone to think before dialling.
And for all the Aggie fans out there, prepare yourselves for a change! Gone are the days of camping out for football tickets. President Mark Welsh recently announced that digital tickets will make their grand debut starting next season. This decision follows some chaos during the ticket pull for the Texas game. It’s about time A&M joined other schools in this digital revolution! According to a recent survey, a whopping 63 percent of students with sports passes are all for the switch. Here’s to safer and more convenient ticket purchases!
Finally, let’s address a more serious note. The College Station police department is asking for help regarding some street sign toppers that have mysteriously disappeared from the McCulloch historical district. These toppers were funded by local residents and have been missing for one to two months. If you happen to know anything, please reach out to the police. Together, we can help keep our community vibrant and intact!
That’s all for now, College Station! Stay safe and let’s keep celebrating the incredible achievements in our towns
