College Station Man Arrested on Harassment Charges After Sending 2,200 Text Messages

A man in College Station is facing severe legal consequences after local police arrested him on alleged harassment charges. The arrest came about after revealing that he had bombarded a single individual with over 2,200 text messages within a short span of 12 days in March 2024.

The Arrest

42-year-old Jerome Brown had been systematically sending a local woman a barrage of texts, making her life intolerable to the point of involving law enforcement. On March 14th, 2024, local police officers responded to a complaint from the woman regarding a domestic disturbance. During their investigation, they discovered 90 text messages on the woman’s phone, all sent by Brown.

However, it wasn’t until a revisit to the woman’s apartment on March 26th, 2024, that the police witnessed the full extent of Brown’s harassment. This time, they discovered an eye-watering 2,100 additional text messages sent by Brown. Shockingly, the woman had not provoked or encouraged this behavior, as she confirmed to the police that she hadn’t initiated any contact with Brown.

Presently, Brown is behind bars, with his bond set at $20,000. This isn’t Jerome’s first run-in with the law; he is awaiting two trials on misdemeanor criminal trespassing charges. Brown’s previous charges arise from a November 2023 incident at Baylor Scott & White Hospital, where he was ordered to stay away, but was found trespassing.

The Concerning Case of Harassment

The scale of this harassment case is remarkably high, with the sheer number of text messages sent in such a short time raising serious concerns about the speed and straightforwardness with which someone can cause psychological distress to others. This is an urgent wake-up call for the community to remain vigilant about cyber harassment behaviors and to not hesitate to report concerning incidents to law enforcement.

While the woman at the heart of this case has undoubtedly endured extreme discomfort and fear, local police should be praised for their swift action upon obtaining proof of the harassment. This case sends a clear warning to individuals who believe they can use digital communication channels to harass and intimidate others without consequent legal repercussions.
