May 4th Election Results Bring Success to College Station ISD

Brazos County, Texas

The residents of Brazos County, Texas, headed to the polls on May 4th, 2024 to decide on several local matters, primarily two bond propositions from College Station Independent School District (CSISD) totaling $53.47 million.

College Station ISD Bond Results

In a refreshing turnout for local politics, CSISD’s bond propositions were broadly approved, the unofficial vote count showing majority support. Proposition A received 3,129 votes cast -FOR- (56.87%) and 2,373 votes -AGAINST- (43.13%), while Proposition B witnessed 3,106 votes -FOR- (56.52%) and 2,389 votes -AGAINST- (43.48%). This overwhelming support will see significant enhancements and additions to local schools and community facilities.

Proposition Details

Aimed at improving the current state of local educational institutions and athletic facilities, the propositions include renovations and site improvements to the athletic stadiums at A&M Consolidated HS and College Station HS, installation of artificial turf and LED lights at high school baseball and softball fields, and renovations to the existing A&M Consolidated HS field house. The upgrades promise to provide both students and community members with more functional, safe, and cost-effective spaces for co-curricular activities and community interaction.

Responses and Future Implications

“The College Station community remains committed to supporting all aspects of a well-rounded public education for their children and today, they showed their support at the polls,” said Dr. Tim Harkrider, superintendent of schools. Harkrider extended his gratitude to the members of the 2023 long-range facilities and bond planning committee, and district staff and community members who ensured the community was informed before casting their vote. The passage of these two propositions would mark significant strides in the localized support and enhancement of educational needs and facilities.

The estimated tax increase due to the 2023 Bond will remain stable for the 2024 Bond projects, providing fiscal stability to the district and taxpayers. It is hoped that the benefits reaped by these school upgrades will long reverberate in the education and overall growth of the student community, resulting in a more vibrant, educated, and community-centric future.

Voting Statistics and Further Updates

For the May 4th elections, there were 3,193 early voters, marking less than four percent of the eligible 86,506 voters. There were six voting centers available for those casting their votes in the bond elections. These sites were spread over the College Station and Navasota ISD areas, along with the emergency services district two (ESD 2) requesting to increase the property tax rate to facilitate a new fire station construction. The full results of these election results are yet to be canvassed and further updates will be provided soon.
