In a shocking incident, a College Station man identified as Ricardo Alvarez, 34, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman known to him, as stated by the College Station Police Department. Furthermore, the suspect has two misdemeanor charges and an unrelated misdemeanor warrant out of Harris County, according to Brazos County Jail records.
The incident took place in the 400 block of University Oaks Boulevard following a distress call pertaining to potentially deadly behavior. The caller reported a man, later identified as Alvarez, attempting to assault someone with a knife. Upon arriving at the scene, the police gained a detailed account of the situation.
The victim who was the alleged recipient of the abuse reported to the police that following an argument, Alvarez had tried to re-enter her apartment to grab a knife with apparent intentions to inflict self-harm. As she tried to prevent him from doing so, he allegedly grabbed her by the throat and she feared for her life.
The charge of assaulting a pregnant woman is severe, with it being categorized as a third-degree felony. If convicted, Alvarez could face up to 20 years in prison besides a maximum fine of $10,000.
