The looming deadline for filing for the upcoming November city council and school board elections in College Station and Bryan draws ever closer. As of the evening of Friday, August 16, three contested races have emerged for positions on the College Station city council.
David White and Valen Cepak are vying for the Place Three seat. The incumbent, Linda Harvell, is unfortunately ineligible for the race due to term limits. For the Place Four seat, Aron Collins and Craig Regan are contesting, while in the contention for re-election in Place Five is the incumbent, Bob Yancy. The Place Six seat is being sought after by Tre Watson and Scott Shafer. Dennis Maloney, the incumbent, is also ineligible to run due to term limits.
In an interesting turn of events, Craig Regan has made a strategic shift from the city council’s place six to place four position on Friday afternoon, a move following Shafer’s application for the place six position.
Four Bryan city council incumbents seeking re-election are facing opposition. Taking a closer look: incumbent Jared Salvato has filed for re-election to single-member district three; James Edge, also has filed for single-member district four and is being challenged by Shane Savage; Marca Ewers-Shurtleff sees opposition from Patrick Giammalva for single-member district five and Kevin Boriskie, incumbent for the city-wide at-large position, will run against Justin Wager.
A single individual has filed for the College Station ISD school board. Darin Paine seeks his second term as the at-large place one member. Moreover, Kristin Wilson has filed for the at-large place two position.
Similarly, two hopefuls have filed for Bryan ISD school board positions: David Stennis seeks the district-wide at-large seat, while Ruthie Waller aims for a fourth term representing BISD’s single-member district four.
The filing period remains open for anyone else contemplating a run for these positions until August 19th. With no shortage of local contests already taking shape, the days leading to the filing deadline will likely witness more candidates throwing their hats into the ring, making for an exciting and heated election season.
