College Station is buzzing with excitement as plans unfold for a brand new American Legion Post. Mark your calendars for October 29, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. because the gathering will take place at the popular venue, Urban Table. This meeting aims to bring together local veterans who have been honorably discharged but are not currently members of the American Legion. It’s a wonderful opportunity for those who have served our country to connect, network, and find support within the community.
For those unfamiliar, the American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 and has worked tirelessly to provide various community service programs. Their initiatives primarily focus on four pillars: Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children and Youth. So why is this new post so important? Well, it aims to build a robust support network for veterans right here in College Station.
Did you know that Brazos County has seen a significant increase in its veteran population? Currently, veterans make up about 3.5% of the total population. This new post will be crucial in catering to their needs, especially considering College Station’s unique veteran demographic. With its close proximity to Texas A&M, which boasts a Corps of Cadets known for producing many military leaders, the area is ripe for a new gathering place for veterans.
If you’re a veteran interested in joining this new post and want to become a charter member, don’t forget to bring your DD Form 214. This documentation is key as it verifies your honorable discharge from military service. Once the new post secures a temporary charter, it will also accept transfers from veterans belonging to other posts, including Post 345, a virtual post designed specifically for Texas veterans.
Adding to the excitement of the evening, Texas State Commander Tom Marty and Judge Advocate JD Langley will be present to guide the attendees through the chartering process. They will share their expertise and help ensure that the formation of the new post goes smoothly.
This meeting is not just a formality; it’s an open invitation for all veterans in the College Station area to step up and support one another. It’s about fostering a stronger sense of community and ensuring that our veterans have access to the resources they need to thrive. Whether you’re looking to make new friends, find support, or get involved in community service, the new American Legion post is poised to offer something for everyone.
If you have any questions or need further details about the upcoming meeting, feel free to reach out to Heather Humphrey. You can contact her at 979-820-3819 or via email at heatherhumphrey1975@msn.com. Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to connect with local veterans, share your stories, and contribute to the community.
In conclusion, this new American Legion Post promises to be a vibrant addition to the College Station community, aimed at uplifting and supporting our honorable veterans. We look forward to seeing many new faces on October 29!
