100th Birthday Milestone for College Station Resident

In a momentous occasion that brought together about four generations in College Station, Texas, Gladys Watson turned 100 years old recently – an event highlighted by the celebrating community’s love and appreciation for the Texas-native and proud Aggie.

Friends, Family, and Affection Galore

Her surprise 100th birthday party had friends, family, and loved ones pouring in to show their love and admiration for the nonagenarian. Watson, born in Paris, Texas, in 1922 and unmistakably a candid Aggie, was flooded with affection on her special day. She credits her longevity to living each day as it comes and holds cherished relationships with the people she met throughout her life.

Embracing Aggie Culture

After her relocation to College Station, Watson embraced the Aggie culture wholeheartedly. Her ties with the A&M community grew stronger over the years as her husband and three of her children became part of the Texas A&M institution. Building an extensive family herself, Watson now takes pride in her five children, eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

A Life Well-Lived

Gladys, vivacious even in her centenarian stage, expressed her deepest gratitude for her friends and family at her party. Today, she is a pleasant personality who loves spending her time birdwatching and playing card games, an activity she treasures when she is with friends.

In her words delivered with a beaming smile on her face, “I could not believe so many friends and I would be here. But it’s fantastic. I’m just delighted. Even though I don’t expect to make another hundred years, however many I do make, I want to have the friends and all that I have and I want to continue enjoying the friends that come. I love them.”

A Lifetime of Day-by-Day Living

The centenarian also had insights to share about her long life when asked about her secret. Frankly, she claimed to have none, except for the virtue of taking life day by day and savoring every moment it offers. Her warm personality is a living testament to this philosophy that has served her well through the ups and downs of life.

The community in College Station and beyond sends their love and cheers to Watson for her 100-year milestone. Her life exemplifies the beauty of simplicity, perseverance, and the power of cherishing relationships, which she attributes to her longevity and the happiness she enjoys today.
